Finding untapped profitable niches when you’re about to start a new blog or an online business can be a huge challenge.
When you start a new blog or online business, your ability to make money sometimes will depend on the market which you’ve chosen for your specific type of business.
If there are no clients in your niche for you to sell your products, offer your services, or promote affiliated products then you won’t be able to make money.
A niche is basically a subset of a larger market with its own particular needs or preferences. These can sometimes be different from the larger market.
For example, within the market of clothing, there are also many different niches or segments. Women’s clothing would be a niche market, Men’s clothing would be another one, as are baby’s clothing, or even office clothing.
These would all represent niche markets within the larger market of clothing.
If you’re about to start an online business, it may seem to you that every profitable niche has already been taken and there’s too much competition around all profitable niches. But that is actually not true.
Many people really think that the only niches that really make money are the niches of “Blogging”, “make money online”, “Personal Finance”, etc.
The truth is that there are still untapped profitable niches out there with a huge earning potential. In this article, I’m going to share some of them with you.

1. Learning How to Speak Another Language
People really like to learn new languages. Indeed, most of the bloggers I know are not even native English speakers.
The fact that they speak a second language besides the one from their country of origin gives them the opportunity to also communicate with larger audiences.
Over the next few decades, many people will still need to learn a second language besides their native language.
I speak English and Spanish for instance and that gives me an advantage over any of my competitors who only speak English.
That being said, there is already a market for language software, online language coaching services, and everything else related to learning a new language.
The best thing about it is that there are not so many blogs in this niche at the moment. This Niche has a Market Value of around US$45 Billion per year.
Here’s a blog that is already doing very well in this niche:
The site www.iwillteachyoualanguage.com is about 5 years old and receives around 500K visitors per month from queries such as “Learn Japanese”, “best way to learn Spanish”, “Learn Chinese”, etc.
2. Renewable Energy Niche
Talking about untapped profitable niches, now we’re going to talk about one that represents a huge opportunity. This is true not only for online businesses, but also for serious investors who want to put their money in an industry that has experienced tremendous growth over the last few years.
Renewable energy is the type of energy that’s collected from renewable natural resources, which are also naturally replenished over time, we’re talking about things such as:
- sunlight
- wind
- rain
- tides
- waves
- geothermal heat
There are opportunities to sell more than just solar energy solutions here. People are also looking at wind and water turbines to generate electricity for their home and save money on utility bills in the long term.
If you don’t think this market really has a huge potential, maybe you’d be surprised to know that Saudi Arabia (one of the biggest oil producers in the world) is currently working towards becoming the world leader in solar energy by the year 2030.
Also, there are around 53,247 products related to renewable energy listed on Amazon and about 100 products on Clickbank. There are all affiliate products you could be selling.
3. Play a Musical Instrument
Many people want to learn how to play a musical instrument. They are not simply looking for Free lessons; they actually pay for them.
Take a look at www.guitarlessons.com, just to give you an example.
This blog is exclusively focused on guitar lessons. They have domain authority (DA) of 43 which is strong, but not amazing. But they’re getting around 350K visitors per month just offering guitar lessons.
So, that being said, this one is a very profitable niche to make money by either providing lessons on how to play any specific musical instrument or even affiliate marketing of related products.
4. Relationship Advice
Many people already know about this niche, but I still consider it to be an untapped profitable niche because I feel like they’re still not taking full advantage of the actual potential of this market.
The biggest problem most people still have is finding the right person for a loving, long-term relationship.
This niche is especially profitable for women as they tend to be “more knowledgeable” in terms of relationships and emotional matters.
If you’re interested in making money with this niche, you could maybe write a book on “how to fix the most common couple problems” or “how to recover and find love after a divorce” and self-publish it on the Amazon Kindle platform.
5. Expensive Hobbies
This one is definitely one of the best niches to make really high amounts of money. The key here is to target hobbies where people get really passionate and spend plenty of money.
People will always spend money on things that make them feel happy or excited, so passions and hobbies are definitely smart niches to work on.
Hobbies in which people tend to spend a lot of money include travel and sports activities such as hunting, fishing, sailing, skiing, and playing golf. These are all very expensive hobbies, thus they represent huge opportunities to make money.
To give you an example, let’s take a look at www.wideopenspaces.com
First of all, I had a really hard time finding a decent blog that covers exclusively hunting related topics. This is definitely a hobby in which people spend a lot of money.
That tells me that there are plenty of opportunities here for blogs that cover that specific niche market.
Second, this blog receives around 1.8 million visitors per month, and it only covers the topics around hunting, fishing, and shooting.
When I looked at the competition level for the keywords related to this niche, I wasn’t really surprised to see how low the competition level is. This clearly confirms to me that more people could be taking advantage of this untapped profitable niche.
6. Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality has been an ongoing trend for the past several years. Virtual reality gaming and other forms of entertainment have shown to have a big future ahead.
That is why big companies like Facebook have already invested billions of dollars on it.
With the arrival of the Oculus Rift, for instance, people now can immerse themselves in the virtual entertainment experience.
As this market continues to grow and become more popular, just think about how many people are going to be looking for reviews about VR related products.
7. Biodegradable Consumables
Based on the most current environmental trends, people are starting to care about the planet. A major concern is how plastics are harming our oceans and its life. People are already understanding that something has to change.
The opportunities are just humongous for promoting bottles, straws, or any kind of item manufactured out of alternatives to plastic. Because plastic takes so long to bio-degrade, alternatives that that only take several months instead will be popular.
People now understand that plastic waste is a huge threat to our lives because it’s entering our food chain. Not only are birds and fish consuming those plastics waste, but we are doing it too.
Take a look at how many different products Amazon shows when I searched for “reusable straws“, and the list of products goes on.
8. Home Automation & Security
The “smart home” or home automation industry is mainly dedicated to creating living spaces that are connected through different types of communication systems.
Smart homes use either various automated devices in the house or connect to an off-site location.
This market is estimated to be worth several hundreds of billions of dollars over the next few years.
On the same note, the home security industry is a growing market and it offers many sub-niches within it. Nobody wants to make their own house feel like a fortress or bomb shelter, but we know that crime has been around for a long time and I don’t think it is really going anywhere.
You could start a business niche site focused entirely on home defense systems, home monitoring software, Wi-Fi video doorbells, Wi-Fi security camera systems, etc.
9. Artificial Intelligence
There is no reason to doubt that Artificial intelligence is one of the biggest things we’ll see in our near future.
There are already multiple artificial intelligence systems that go way beyond the capabilities of humans expectations.
Also, we see how complex AI algorithms and cognitive robots are entering in the field of human-based industries such as:
- customer service
- sales support
- finance
- transportation
- production
- manufacturing
- marketing
Although the Artificial Intelligence industry is very vast, there is still enough space for a number of products to fill numerous niche markets of this growing technology in the next couple of years.
10. Drones
Drones are currently a very hot niche. That is why I have included this one in my list of untapped profitable niches.
Everybody wants to have their own drone, to start taking photos and doing live transmissions from the sky.
A very nice idea would be creating a blog about drones and making it a very active community where you review drones as they come out.
Hot topics would be writing about the rumors of upcoming drone leaks. Share tips on how to fly drones and upload YouTube videos of uses for drones.
There are many websites out there about drones, but I haven’t really found one out there that’s making a huge impact in this particular niche.
The sites I’ve seen could be easily overtaken by a very skilled blogger.
Have You Found Any Untapped Profitable Niches?
Many people think that they can only make money online if they talk about how to make money online, SEO, etc. But the truth is that they can’t be more wrong.
Indeed, I have several blogs about different topics including “inspirational stories”, “health & and home treatment”, “relationship advice”, “DIY”, and “make money online”.
The ones that actually make less money and get less traffic are the ones about “make money online“. The reason why is very simple.
These blogs are in a very competitive niche market and I am there because I want to help other people change their lives through making money online.
If you want to start a new online business and start generating some income, the best idea is to start with a niche that has a medium to low competition level.
