40 Well-Earning Freelance Writers Teach You How to Cash In Too

February 26, 2015 By Steph Weber 17 Comments

When I told people that I was going to become a freelance writer, I got a lot of terms like “hobby” and “side gig” thrown at me from friends and family. No one believed I could actually make a full-time, decent wage working for myself.
You might’ve heard the same comments too.
So if you have one foot back in the cubicle already, you need to hear this: Those naysayers couldn’t be more wrong.

Secrets to Success

Newbie writers don’t know where to start. Instead, they struggle to find good-paying gigs in an ever-changing marketplace and work for pennies while doing so.
I was in the same place once too, crippled with fear and completely oblivious about how to run a successful freelance business.
40_freelancewriters_ebook_cover_200x300_comingsoonAnd that’s why Carol Tice’s latest e-book, Start Here: 40 Freelance Writers Share How They Find Clients, Stay Motivated, & Earn Well Today, absolutely nails it. Carol is a six-figure freelance writer and the blogger behind Make a Living Writing.
She’s pulled together three years’ worth of the top guest posts from her blog, most of which are from newbie writers – like me – who’ve figured out how to break in and earn well.
While I’m honored to be included in the book, I would have loved to have this resource when I was just starting out.
The book will teach you how to:

  • Get paying assignments with no previous writing samples.
  • Find hundreds of solid customer leads.
  • Avoid nightmare clients.
  • Triple your response rate on pitch letters.

And so much more. Plus, you’ll find renewed motivation after reading case studies like these:

  • Are you an introvert? No problem. Read how another introvert used LinkedIn to net $7,500 in assignments in just three short months.
  • Already writing but barely breaking even? Learn how one writer negotiated her way to a 600% raise in just 72 hours.
  • Paralyzed by fear? You might like my own personal story about how I kicked fear to the curb and secured $1,500 a month in blogging gigs.

Worthwhile Investment

If you’re considering a career as a freelance writer or are stumped about how to earn real wages, this 150+ page e-book is for you. You can see firsthand how other writers broke through all the noise and cashed in.
Covering everything from negotiating pay to marketing to productivity tips, these case studies and step-by-step examples show you how it’s possible to earn well, today, as a freelance writer.
Check out all the e-book details here {Carol’s running a killer special!} and let’s prove the naysayers wrong again.

Nice Blog There are bloggers who make a living freelancing in many ways. Most do not get rich, but it is possible to earn a good living. I am hoping to network locally with a non-profit in the coming weeks and eventually find a content writing opportunity that pays decently, desires my talents, and provides a reasonable degree of work or referrals as well. Perhaps that is what the majority of us want here.
    Thanks For The Blog

      Hi there,

Steady work, especially content work, is a wonderful arrangement for freelancers. Many businesses outsource those responsibilities. Personally, this type of work encompasses more than half of my clients/income. Lots of opportunities out there!

      Hi Noman,

Those are great goals to strive for! Networking, in my opinion, is huge. For example, I just signed on for two new projects last week, both with clients I had done work for almost a year ago. So when you get that next gig, really knock it out of the park. You never know when those clients might come back for another project.

      Hi Rohit,

Thanks for stopping by to comment! It’s true – all freelancers have to start somewhere. You’d be amazed at the progress that’s made once action is taken. I think a lot of writers (me included) get caught up in thinking, planning, etc and fail to take action.

Hi Anjali. Thanks for commenting. I’d encourage to check out the link at the end of the article or consider joining the Freelance Writers Den. I know lots of writes, myself included, who used those resources as their jumping off point.

Yes, unfortunately it is true that some famous bloggers got where they are by photo-shopping phony earnings. There are bloggers who make a living freelancing in many ways. Most do not get rich, but it is possible to earn a good living.

Agreed, Gail. It’s not a get rich quick career by any means, but the flexibility does allow you to amp up your earnings on the side before leaving a day job. Or worst case scenario, keeping the day job and just working your side hustle.

Very nice and valid points. One technique I use – after identifying the money making skills is to run a blog and talk about it. In fact, most of my top clients are gained through my blog.
