Do YOUR Blogging Goals Include Monetization: Benefits Our Readers Receive

April 2, 2009 By Gail Gardner 26 Comments

NOTE: This post includes:

  1. A survey asking whether your goals include selling products online
  2. Information on a faster, easier way to add products to an existing site even if you have no technical skills
  3. How to have an entire WordPress based store and blog built for you (example at NoBogies.com)

I know that most of my readers are bloggers. I know this because I intentionally followed serious bloggers and also because almost all of those who comment here have their own blogs.

What I don’t know is whether my posts are reaching small business owners who would greatly benefit from the proven methods I share on how to increase their traffic and conversions. Bloggers also benefit from this same information and I have some exciting new ideas for them too.

Please take a minute to answer just one question in the simple poll below. I bet you’ll be interested in the results too!

Select the option that is closest to what you do or what you would prefer to be doing online and add any details you would like to share or questions you have in the comments of this post.

Some know that I’ve been collaborating with another blogger on a golf blog that includes both blog content and a store. That particular store was created using Datafeedr to display products offered by others through affiliate programs.  The reason I am sharing this is because some may wish to use this strategy to quickly monetize their blog.

Even with datafeedr, building a store in this manner is not all that simple if you’re not highly technical. It is faster – you can add hundreds or thousands of products related to your niche in one day. Or do what I do and have someone who is really sharp do it for you while you focus on creating content to feature specific products or types of products.

We are interested in assisting other bloggers to add a store to their blog. If you want to know the truth – whether you are likely to make money, how long it will take, what else you need to do to get this to work – you know I am going to tell you.  I will personally evaluate your existing site, discuss your traffic and what you already know and offer you free guidance.

For those with existing sites the cost is minimal and we may even be willing to add products with no upfront costs on a percentage of sales basis.

If you don’t already have a site or want to create a different site we can help you with that too. Simply leave a comment in this post letting me know you’re interested and I will contact you via the email address you use. You can also contact me at Twitter.

We are particularly interested in assisting those in golf-related businesses related to golf gifts or anyone whose blog would be a good fit for the affiliate program of Executive Gift Shoppe. They sell personalized and engraved gifts suitable for personal gifts or business gifts. They have an enormous inventory, great service, and very competitive prices so they may well have one or more product categories perfect for your store. And they pay a VERY HIGH affiliate commission of 20%.

We are also seeking those in wedding related niches because Executive Gifts started out as a Groomsman Gifts store. Imagine having thousands of wedding related products almost instantly added to your Wedding Planner or other wedding niche store. Datafeedr also supports Bridaluxe so all your favorite stores can be quickly imported into your blog.

Already have you own store? Consider subscribing to our feed so you don’t miss the proven strategies for growing your business, increasing your traffic and converting more visitors to buyers.

TIP: Turn your visit into a valuable incoming link with your selected anchor text by leaving a comment.

One last thing: Do you know a blogger or business owner who could benefit from reading our blog? Would you assist both them and us by recommending us? If you’re a blogger you might even consider including us in one of your posts. We recommend and link to other bloggers all the time and share their posts at Twitter, FriendFeed and cliKball. We thank those who have already taken the time to write about us and hope YOU will consider it too. Thank you.

That is exactly correct. One can actually find lots of referrals online to make sure. Just search a bit

    Hey,

Twitter search is pretty good resource for finding niche conversation. I’ve been using twitter since long back for finding same interest’s contact on twitter. Thanks for sharing such good ideas for searching in twitter.

Hello Viteb, There are many third party Twitter apps that make it easier to find Tweets by subject or location. TwellowHood is one of the latest. You may want to do a search for some of the others. Eventually I may research and post about them.

I tried voting here but there was some kind of error. Could try fixing that? I love surveys and polls!

Twtpoll may have been down; however, some have had trouble with this particular poll. Each time I check it in multiple browsers it works so I don’t know what is going on with it.

First I’ll ask TwtPoll if they can look at it and if that doesn’t work I’ll replace it with a new TwtPoll and see if it will let me add the existing votes into the new poll so we don’t lose them.

You might try again and let us know if it works.

@Matt I didn’t mean to miss answering your comment. Now that the Thesis installation is this far along maybe we can get Threaded Comments installed next. You can subscribe via email here and I have suggested me make that link more obvious. It is currently available on the About page and to make it easy here is the link:

@Rein Many of us blog to share what we’ve learned. If our sites become self-supporting we will have more time to share even more than we do now.

@Siraj Making money with ANY site is a much greater challenge than most imagine. Is the site you linked your comment to yours? I see that you offer an affiliate program through Commission Junction and I know that is expensive.

The challenge is that there may be 1,000 individual actions and improvement one can make. Each will increase sales less than 1% yet added together they can really add up. It helps to know which can generate the largest increases and make those the priority.

Hi Siraj. I just wanted to check back in with you. You haven’t failed; you just haven’t found the right combination of strategies or done enough yet. Look for a new post explaining the numbers involved in getting successful.

Well, for my own opinion. Having a blog is to provide online people what they want. And monetizing is only a side plan for it. 🙂

@Ben I’m not clear on precisely what you’re trying to do. If you mean how can they subscribe via email there is an option to do that in most RSS readers.

If you mean how can you create a mailing list I recommend you check into aWeber – they are THE company for automating email lists and sending autoresponder messages.

Even if you are small enough to do things manually now it is a much better idea to automate while you are just getting started or small so that you won’t be overwhelmed. It is better to automate what you can so you can spend your time on other tasks that will allow you to grow faster.

I am working on starting a new blog and I have been wondering about how I can make such a form, where a user can enter his email address and it would be somehow emailed to me so that I can add it to my mailing list. I signed up for Feedburner but I’m afraid that many of my readers won’t have Feedburner accounts and will be unable to subscribe by email or RSS.

@Growmap: adding an e-mail subscription option would also be a nice touch, as I don’t use Twitter or Google Reader.
Most blogs have a way to enter your e-mail address and get update notifications when new articles are written!

@Indo Contest No problem Indo – we are planning to switch to Thesis so we decided not to spend the time to create a contact form in this theme.

Thank you for letting us know. This is for the review we did of Dennis’ Edell’s blogs? We’ll have to get a 125×125 ad created. I’ll email you so you’ll have my email address.

@Sire I may have to but I dislike confusing anyone.

@Rob Thank you. I thought it would be interesting and hope it will get more bloggers thinking about how to make their contributions self-supporting.

@Hectic Yes, links are good; however, there is much more in this blog that will greatly benefit bloggers and small businesses. I hope most get more out of what I do here than just a link.

@Sire I just tested and it works for me. Oh well. That is technology for you. I noticed your popshop just now.
