The Impact of Social Media on Small Business Blogging

October 7, 2016 By Andy Bell 27 Comments

Social media can have a massive impact on small businesses that are in the process of growing. And if a business has a blog, that combination can have even more power. You won’t be able to know just how strong of an impact social media can have until you try it yourself.

Computer-Small Business Blogging

Go on, give it a shot! If you own a small business, make a blog on the side that is related to your business. Post relevant information there. Not only will your blog gain visibility, but so will your main business website. Also, you’ll get to be much closer to your customer base than you were before!

There are no negatives when it comes to using social media to help your business. Just be sure to avoid posting personal information on your company blog. Make a separate blog for personal posts.

Increase website traffic

Once you start business blogging, you will notice an increase in website traffic just because you started a blog that follows your business. It’s simple – the more information that’s available to customers, the more trust they will have in you.

Plus they will be interested in finding out more about your business. And once your business starts spreading across other social media channels, you’ll see a huge increase in visitors! Keep this goal in mind so you know how to proceed as time goes by.

Engage with customers

I get upset when I notice how “robotic” large enterprises sound when talking with customers. The importance of treating your customers with respect and communicating  like a human being has been proven time and time again. If you do so, your company will have more success.

For example, a company that makes mistakes will have a much easier time with its customers if the employees communicate properly than will a company that goes silent or denies any mistake was made. So be a friend to your customers! Don’t just perceive them as something that brings you money. Treat them with respect, and they will treat you with even more respect. This principle is especially true when it comes to social media where people share their thoughts!

Generate more leads

You’ve been trying to get people to visit your website so they can see what your business is all about. But it’s not working. You think you’ve tried everything. After all, other blogs use the same strategies, and they’re having much more success than you! You ask yourself, “What’s the catch?”

Well, the main issue is that business owners often make a fairly crucial mistake. Namely, they focus solely on selling their product to potential customers in an attempt to draw them in. However, people simply don’t like to be sold to; they would rather you give them information. They want you to educate them. Avoid this issue by writing accordingly!

Get a higher ranking

There are certain methods you can use to boost the popularity of your business. The best one that doesn’t cost any money is SEO optimization. Social media also plays a big role in this tactic because people will share your blog, thus bringing more traffic to your main website.

All in all, try to use words that are commonly used on your site or blog or that come up first on Google or other search engines. Using this method is necessary if you want as much traffic as possible on your website or blog.

Better crawling for your blog

There’s an interesting little function on the Internet called the “Google crawler.” This gadget “crawls” all around the Internet, searching for keywords and giving rankings based on how much relevant information is there. You will have to add certain keywords to bring the crawler to your website and let it search the website more efficiently. In the end, SEO optimization is key and without it, your site and blog will suffer.

Conclusion

Overall, social media has a significant impact on the popularity of your blog and website. When you start a blog, social media can increase people’s trust in you, give you insight into your customers, and cause people to praise your business. However, you can achieve a much greater impact through careful planning and engaging content. You should take your time to create the best possible blog to complement your website!

I have long considered social media as a crucial component to business moving forward. I agree with the articles points.

As a startup investor, I have seen the way people get more and more into social media and have identified it as a medium to further promote our brand. I took up some online courses in Social Media Strategies, mostly under Career Academy, to augment our current skill sets in marketing to take advantage of this phenomenon.

Good job and kudos to the author! 🙂

In my own opinion, it’s best for anyone starting a blog to try different social media platforms and finally stick to the one that works best. This way you won’t have to spend too much time on a platform that wouldn’t work.

    Hey Andy,

We currently live in a world in which traditional advertising strategies aren’t enough. Social media not only allows for tremendous outreach and networking, but also allows for interactivity that can be very beneficial to businesses for a variety of reasons.

Surely, we have noticed the shift from traditional advertising that has occurred with the increased use of the Internet over time. Now, people consume more advertising online than in print media, radio or television. Social media has become a vast and wide open canvas, and taking full advantage of it requires careful strategic planning. When you are using social media for business, you should make sure to keep your social media profile updated consistently, and maintain a constant presence for your business’s exposure.

Social media enhances this entire experience, and makes it vastly more visible. The idea is not only to use social media for engagement, but also to drive users to your company’s business page, which will further educate users about your work and your services.strong social media strategy can require an investment, but as with any advertising campaign, the ROI (return on investment) is what needs to be considered. A good social media strategy will have a positive effect on sales as it increases the overall exposure of your business, gets people talking about your business or service, and exposes your products and/or services to a far wider audience. Thanks for your great support.

    With best wishes,

    Nice post!
Social media helps a lot to gain traffic to a newly launched site. New sites do not find any position in serps easily for a desired keyword. So, one should definitely go for paid social media traffic to reach out to some ‘target audience’

I had just started my website last month and I wanted to do some paid-social media advertising but my partner strongly advise me not to – at least not at the beginning because the expenses will quickly add-up. I just want to know roughly how much would you set aside for paid advertising (only on social media platforms) if you just started a brand new site/blog?

      Hi Jeremiah,

Some writers spend $5-$20 on Facebook to promote every post they publish and others only spend that amount for select content. The key to Facebook is that you can target very tightly, so if you have a target audience you really want to reach that can be targeted there it could be worth it.

If you don’t know what audience you want or you target too broadly, you may not get much value out of it. For the site you use CommentLuv on, you might try targeting “organic” or “alternative health” (if those exist – I know “organic” does because I’ve used it).

Businesses that only ship to a particular country should target only Facebook users in that country. Read up on best practices before you spend any money. Search for content about doing Facebook advertising by AgoraPulse, Kim Garst and Mari Smith.
