7 SEO Copywriting Tips for Stellar Content

July 9, 2016 By AJ Agrawal 26 Comments

Content has to start with a title that makes readers want to continue. The content has to deliver the promise that the title leads into. Optimizing using keywords, properly formatted links, and having the content available on multiple platforms gains visibility.

7 SEO Copywriting Tips for Stellar Content

Think your content through with a complete outline before jumping into writing to ensure that the content has value.

Table of Contents

    • 1. Compelling Headlines
    • 2. Big Data
    • 3. Proper Formatting
    • 4. Formatted Permalinks
    • 5. Audience Optimized
    • 6. Social Media
    • 7. Think Readability

1. Compelling Headlines

A headline or title that makes consumers want to read the post is necessary. The sub-headings also matter as most readers only scan articles for the pieces of information they need. The title sets the tone for the entire piece.

Tip: Search your prospective title for similarities in a simple Google search. If it is too similar or identical, change it before finishing your piece to show that the content is unique.

2. Big Data

Using metrics and big data to measure optimization, readership, and engagement is vital for creating stellar SEO optimized content. Data can tell you which keywords are the strongest for your topic.

Breakdown metrics into categories like:

  • Subscription growth or decline
  • Use of appropriate inbound links
  • Readership feedback
  • Current SEO ranking
  • Track time worked on the website
  • Total website traffic

The numbers returned from simple analytic metrics help writers develop content that performs better. Consider formatting your writing interface to detect use of passive voice, awkward phrasings, and unattractive language that may turn your readers off. Writing for them, in turn, helps you write for Google SEO practices at the same time.

3. Proper Formatting

Society has a much shorter attention span today. This means that properly formatting content for your audience is necessary. Use shorter sentences and keep your paragraphs short. Large blocks of text at a time turns audiences off. Sub-headers, bullet lists. and graphs / photos help break up the content to make it more readable.

4. Formatted Permalinks

Always check your permalinks prior to publishing content. The website name should always be present. Another key factor is including a major keyword to help SEO results and visibility. Some website builders do not permit customized permalinks. If that is the case, migrating to a suitable platform is preferable.

5. Audience Optimized

Stellar content needs to be optimized for your audience first and Google second. While Google performance is important, your loyal readership is going to produce better results through social media sharing. With SEO content writing, the audience and its reaction to the content is more important than a Google ranking.

The popularity of a post alone, through social media and network sharing processes, can help boost search rankings some.

6. Social Media

Writers, and their content, should be visible on social media channels. One of the best social media channels to share content on is Google+. Other important social media channels to post content on are Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. These are the most used platforms for finding relevant stories by Internet users.

7. Think Readability

How easy is your content to read? That is an important question to answer. It is a good idea to ensure that all of the content you produce is gauged at a tenth-grade reading level. The content has to have flow, purpose, and relevant information that has value. At the same time, you must also select a comfortable vocabulary for the audience.

SEO Copywriting Tips Conclusion

The more informative a written piece is; the more attention it is likely to get. Creating stellar content requires the desire to make sure every word written has a purpose and adds value to the writing. Readers like to have something to think about or keep in mind after reading a piece.

I’m not an SEO expert but what I do know is that the combination of onsite + link building is the core of SEO and everyone should follow it. Whilst Meta, image alt tags & most of what you mentioned is a must have, a well – tuned onsite will be killing it for you

I am looking for some suggestions regarding my web content. I hired some content writers for my website but I don’t know what to look at the SEO content. I don’t know how many keywords or words do I need to have in a content? Can I brake down a keyword into few places or do I need to write a full keyword.

      Hello Kaminska,

It isn’t just a matter of writing content. The content has to attract links or the site will never rank. First, you need to do keyword research and decide what you want to rank for and then develop one post or page for each keyword phrase.

Ranking a site is not easy and there is a lot more to it beyond getting the content live.

Great tips! The information/ message in your content is not enough to convince your target audience to read your content. To ensure that people will click on your post and finish reading it, you need to have a compelling title to catch their attention, efficiently relay the message with proper formatting and do all sorts of content optimization. Moreover, having a well-planned content promotion is necessary to make sure that it reaches your target audience.
