Discovering Hot Bargains for Your Home Office

August 4, 2013 By Mary Green 26 Comments

home office furnitureI’m guessing you spend a lot of time in an office every day. It’s the place you take phone calls, make deals, and hit your business goals.

But, when you look around your office, does it have everything you need to call it home for several hours a day? I mean, you probably spend more time there than you do relaxing at home, right?

Maybe you do, maybe you don’t, but having a proper office is important.

You have to have the right tools to do the job, and a proper desk and office chair are two items that should not be overlooked.

You’ll be sitting at your desk, in your chair for several hours at a time, so you better have something that keeps you comfortable.

The problem though, is how to find and get these items without spending an arm and a leg. You are running a small business, after all, and every dollar counts, so if you are going to do this, you have to be careful. Here’s how:

Quality Office Furniture At Quantity Discounts

Where there is a will, there is a way. The internet has several websites that can help you find the products you need, at a price that works for your budget. You simply have to know where to look.

Pss… Guess what? I know where to look 🙂

Simple eBay Tricks to Save You Loads of Dough

eBay- There’s a simple trick you can use on eBay to find low-cost office furniture. Since many sellers don’t want to deal with the hassle of shipping large products across the country, or even inside their own states, they post items for sale, and mark them for “Local Pickup Only”.

Most of the people who shop eBay will see this and run. They don’t want to deal with the hassle of driving to pick the item up, so they move on to the next product.

It’s far easier to wait for the mail to bring a package than to take time to go pick up new items, right? So, these items get fewer bids, and end up costing much less than comparable products available for shipment.

Here’s the trick: Find the Local Pickup Only items for sale, and instead of passing on them, contact the seller and ask if they would allow you to get a personal courier to pick up the item and deliver it to you.

You can arrange payment, and then contact a courier on rapidparcel.com to handle delivery. Everything works just as easily for the seller, and yourself, but a third party makes it a win-win-win for everyone.

Getting the Most From Local Deals On Craigslist

Craigslist- Another place you find great deals for your office is Craigslist. Office furniture is sold frequently on local Craigslist sites from businesses that are going out of business, or have wholesale purchased stock.

They have everything from shelving units to cubicles, large desks, ergonomical chairs, and lighting. Basically anything you might need for your office.

And if you are looking for a variety, you can easily check the bigger cities in your area. One thing you might keep in mind is that many sellers have just an ad or two for the items they have available, but have large amounts of stock to liquidate.

Simply contacting them will get you access to more pictures and stock items to choose from.

A courier is a great option for these ads, too. In most states Craigslist has several sites, which mean a lot of places to search to find the pieces you need.

With shopping in state, couriers won’t have to travel too far to deliver. You’ll have a variety of ads to choose from and save money and shipping and fees, too. Depending on your budget you’ll likely get everything you need in one transaction.

There are online tools and apps that let you set up alerts to receive an email or phone notification when an item you are looking for gets posted on Craigslist.

These alerts can be set up very easily, and allow you to be one of the first to contact a seller about what they have for sale. That gives you a unique opportunity to pick through their stock, so you’ll be more likely to get matching pieces-

Yay! Your office will look even more professional.

Get Free Furniture & Help the Environment

If your budget is strict you can look at your local Freecycle group. Freecycle is active in communities all over the world, and exists to keep things out of garbage dumps.

All you have to do is sign up, and you can post to see if anyone has office furniture they no longer need. While you’ll save a load of cash, you won’t be able to be too picky about the furniture you get. But, sometimes you just can’t beat free.

The next time you are looking to purchase something big, but don’t want to make a large investment, use the tips above to find deals that a courier can deliver for you.

You’ll save money, get what you need, and have a bigger variety of items to choose from by looking at ads normally passed on by others. You just can’t lose. So go ahead, get your office up to par, then send in a picture showing us your remodel.

I dunno where you live but I use craigslist a lot to get those bargains on electronics and furniture for my home office. I live in a military town, so a lot of moving soldiers get rid of their stuff for cheap.

Hi Mary, I agree with you. We spend a big chunk of our life sitting and working in our offices. I have personally experienced that local deals save you a lot of trouble while selling off your old stuff. They turn out to be helpful in buying new things too. We tend to forget our locals most of the time, but they are of great help.

Buying quality chair and desk carries a lot of importance in my eyes and I totally agree with Mary Green on this one. The cost of setting up a business is obviously very high so it’s good to find good quality stuff at lower prices. Personally, I would like to get my office furniture from either Local Deals or from e-Bay.

I think local deals are the best bet. I have always found that when I try to sell things using these sites, I am bombarded by people that want delivery and in that case, it is just not worth the hassle. Thanks for showing us how to revamp our offices!

Another good recourse for all kinds of furniture that you need but may not be able to afford are ‘going out of business’ sales and auctions. We haven’t actually thought of Craigslist, before, though. great information, Mary

These office supplies for classifieds on Craigslist, OLX are completely waste of time. These do not have quality and price of items is high.

Olx is one of the best options as it has local facility for most of the world countries. I have also sold my home furniture at olx at very good price. According to my experience olx is one of the reliable facilities.
