Have you seen the * BIG * announcement? The best absolutely free WordPress plugin of all time – the all new CommentLuv is almost here:
You KNOW I LOVE CommentLuv – and so many others do that there are 42,847 registered users (as of midnight Jun 1, 2011) and it has been downloaded 331,233 times (also as of midnight Jun 1, 2011)!
How this new version works is really different – but it looks just the same. (You can see and use the new version in Stephanie’s Gardening Blog and I’ll get it installed here as soon as my techie experts can get it done.)
I am watching Andy Bailey’s highly entertaining Story of CommentLuv videos as they appear. You can too…if you watch the video above and then click the link at the end.

I love commentluv even more now.
The “have more posts to choose from” part is genius, makes it more intereactive and now people “+1″,”like” or “retweet” the posts and feel like they get rewarded for that, aside from the fact that they just shared a great post.
Comment luv is such a beautiful plug-in that have more than one plug-ins and really it great source of referral traffic. Most of the Worpress bloggers love to use it
Great news, i think all SEO experts appreciate commentluv! This is basically one of the few plugins who make SEO work a little easier.

It’s wonderful/depressing that this post brings a nostalgic feel because of the new premium version of CommentLuv yet this was only posted back in June. Tempus fugit indeed.

cool video Andy! Honestly is very enjoyable, Everything is well explained and I just love your humor by the way.lol! Its really nice to see one of the famous word-press plugin creators, specially the commentluv. And earlier i really don’t know how a commentluv works and what are the benefits of it, I’ve seen several blogs that has posted topics regarding commentluv, but its a bit complicated to understand it by reading that’s why I’m really thankful my friend told me about this and sent me the link, and right now I’m streaming awesome-sauce. I think it would be much more enjoyable if you’d really sing to us how to get more traffic, just saying.lol! Oh by the way i just want to let you know that i just added commentluv Version 2.90.9 on my website, you can check it at emainwebdevelopment dot com and you’ll see it on all the pages besides the homepage. i wrote the link that way so my comment won’t be considered as a spam, just making sure. Comment luv is always favorite for seo. Its great they introducing 2.9
This is indeed good news. I’ve been using commentluv for almost a year now and it is really a great help. I’m gonna try this one and see for myself.
The best way to find out what it does is to install it and play around I suppose..
I just installed it and playing with it right now, amazing stuff 🙂
Awesome news! I had no idea this plugin was being released or that there would be all of these changes along with it. I’m excited to see how it works and how it differs from the old plugin version.
It’s a great tool, especially for beginner and struggling bloggers to get some traffic, content and connections to help with their blog! I’m excited that people use it and a new version is coming up.
I just went through the complicated process of signing up for CommentLuv but it doesn’t seem to activate automatically. I’m still hoping to see value here!

Hoping the default link type is dofollow. Changing the default to nofollow has eliminated many blogs from having a little link love for their followers. (Without them realizing the updated plugin removed the dofollow links). Thanks

When you say, “there are 42,847 registered users,” do you mean the number of people who have signed up at comluv . com (of which I am one), or the number of blogs with the CommentLuv feature?
Hi there. Yes, I’ve heard about this about two or three days ago from my friend. You know, I’m looking forward too for this new updated version, as I’m curious what kind of updates they will include in this update. Hope with this update, CommentLuv will be much better from how it is right now, which is, already good enough for me. 🙂
This version is awesome! I like that it gives you an option to choose which post to show. 🙂
This Commentluv is great. This makes Bloggers know co-bloggers who share interest ideas and commenting thoughts that are really relevant to the topic. It reduces spamming and makes the blog more rewarding to the publisher. Bloggers have increased population because they want to express their freedom in creative writing. This blogging becomes an art that need to be honed well. Not just for business purposes but also for entertainment. Thanks for the explanation on how Commentluv really works.

That seems great! i Luv commentLuv. Thanks for letting us know
Actually your way of point is too good.. Also commentluv has a always dofollow links.. Thanks for this..
No, CommentLuv links are NOT always dofollow – and I hear from others that this new version defaults to nofollow – so dofollow blogs will still be rare and valuable to small businesses and bloggers.

Hi Gail,
To answer your questions, I will not require registration. The blog will remain as it is; registration is not enabled. My preference is to allow everyone to have the 10 posts; that’s what I would like to see on other blogs, too.
The only thing I will consider is the do-follow feature. But I’m inclined to leave do-follow enabled for everyone, and only limit it if someone appears to abuse it.
Thanks for asking these questions and kudos to both you and Donna for getting Andy to come by to clarify things.
Hi Vernessa,
I have always advised businesses and bloggers NOT to require registration because if your commentators have to log in – especially THIS very busy commentator – the odds are the comment won’t be left.
If I only have to register once and don’t have to manually log in that isn’t too bad, but for my own blog I will not require registration and I will stay do follow.

I think I’m more confused about the changes after reading the comments above. 🙂 It seems to me you have to register on every blog that has it if you want extra features, ie.. 10 posts, or other recent posts showing in your about box etc… But I’m guessing each blog owner has the ability to select which features they want to “give away” without a user registering.
I’m not sure I want to register everywhere I comment. It would be a big hassle. Hopefully that isn’t the case. The best way to find out what it does is to install it and play around I suppose.

Hi Nicolas,
No, actually you don’t have to register at all. You just comment as usual and it happens ‘auto-magically’. The question Donna raised is whether the individual blogs show you as a registered user in that blog or not.
growmap would love you to read ..Small Business GROW NOW Giveaway Extended
Was that determined? 🙂 Does it build a list that you can mail to? It also looks like the blog owner can set it to allow the 10 posts to registered members only, but I wonder if you are registered at comluv if that counts or if you need to register at each blog as well.

That’s actually a good point, Nicolas. Ok so, new questions…
1. If Jane registers on Joe’s blog, he gets her added to his list. Does that mean I’ll now never have the chance to have Jane added to my list? First blogger to grab a new user wins?
2. If Jane registers on Joe’s blog because she wants to get the extras that come with registration, do those extras apply at my blog too, automatically?
3. If Jane registers on Joe’s blog because she wants to get the extras that come with registration, and IF that doesn’t automatically transfer the extras elsewhere, will she have to register at my blog, and your blog, and Tom’s blog to be able to get the extras there? Or is it even possible to register at more than one place? If not, does that mean she’ll only ever get the extras at Joe’s blog and nowhere else?
Ok, I found a video where Andy answers all these questions – at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7wod9ZtiHaU
1. They don’t HAVE to register at all (which is why you didn’t on Steph’s blog), but there are advantages they gain if they do.
2. They gain extra features if they register.
3. The benefit of having them register is it grows your list.
4. The answer to my original question is that no one has to sign up on different blogs. They talk to each other via the plugin (or something).
That’s what I gleaned from watching the video. You may want to watch it too.
Hi Donna,
I definitely will watch it right now. We’ll all know much more when we actually get it installed and start using it regularly. One comment I have now though is that there is nothing that I saw when I commented in Stephanie’s blog suggesting that I register or telling me where I could register if I wanted to do so. Did I miss something?
growmap would love you to read ..Facebook End Run Around YOUR Privacy Settings
oh wow, it is SO difficult to follow a thread here! the comments are in reverse order except replies to comments which go the other way.
anyway, the registration bit.
the new plugin allows you to require your readers to register to your site if they want 10 last posts or dofollow links (they don’t HAVE to register, you can just give everyone those things).
users who register on your site will not be registered anywhere else. The point of this is for you to grow your own registrations and make your blog ‘sticky’ to users that take the time to fill in their details.
I understand it may be a pain to register to each and every site but really, it’s a very short process and if the blog isn’t worth registering on then is it really worth commenting on?
The next version will maybe have inline registration or register with facebook/twitter which would speed up the process somewhat.
As a blog owner, that feeling of users not wanting to register everywhere may be beneficial. They might just stick to the blogs they have registered on.
To be honest, there’s no way to tell how it will go. The plugin is a dynamic beast and if things go funny, it can be changed. I don’t know what people want until they tell me and they can’t do that until they have had some use of the new plugin and found out for themselves what they want it to do.
one major biggy factor of taking away registrations at comluv.com is the fact that it is very very expensive and extremely time consuming to run the site. Additional urls and static links barely bring in enough to cover half the server hosting. I’ve been paying over 300 dollars a month out of my own pocket to run commentluv for nearly 3 years and well, it’s time to either change the way the game is played or stop playing.
I’d rather not stop commentluv so I made a version that doesn’t require my server so I can finally get rid of this great big white elephant server that is getting more and more demanding every day. You might be interested or shocked to know that just the intense debate version of commentluv consumes enough bandwidth from AmazonS3 to cost me more every month than most people pay for their hosting? last month, there were over 20,000,000 requests for the script (that’s 20 MILLION)!! images and other items that it uses clocks up the usage meters a lot.
ok, so long winded reply over.. 🙂
if you comment on blog A and they require you to register to get 10 last posts then when you comment on blog B you will also have to register to get 10 last posts…. UNLESS… the owner of blog B has set their commentluv to give everyone that comments 10 posts.
hope this answers your question, the next video will show you want it looks like on blogs that have registration and on blogs that give everyone 10 posts.
Hi Andy,
Thank you for explaining how the registration process works. I would like my commentators to reply to your comment indicating:
1) Would you rather just automatically get the last 10 posts without registering?
2) Do you plan to require registering on your blog?
Andy, I know that with the new plugin default links went away, but I thought you mentioned some other alternative? Did I dream that? Is the ability to share our more relevant pillar content going away for good?

Hi Gail and Andy,
That’s the question uppermost in my mind as well. Oh how I loved that ability to reach back and bring forth evergreen content!
My second question would be about writing on ComLuv. Given your response above, this probably seems obvious, but does this mean no more guest posting?
Lastly, what happens with remaining credits? Can they be “cashed in” for BIG advertising space. (Just kidding about the BIG. ;0 )
Thanks for all you do.
ok, first thing I need to do is get the new plugin out there and working. that’s my priority, once it is out there and stable then I can move comluv.com on to a much much cheaper hosting package.
Guest posts will still carry on though as it wont lose any pagerank so they’ll be just as good at getting juice as they were before.
credits will eventually go byebye, they have never made any decent money. I really thought that they’d be the saviour of the site but it turned out to be more trouble than it was worth! boy, was I wrong on that!
as for default links, in the next video being released today (thursday) I show how the new plugin will allow you to get posts from any category which you couldn’t do with the existing version (unless you had a properly configured wordpress managed feed).
I understand what people are saying about registration. Maybe a future version will change that to add rules so you can give people ten last posts if they have had x number of approved comments. I don’t know yet, like I said, the first priority is getting it out there and people using it so I can put the dedicated server in the bin!
I’ll deal with all the ‘other stuff’ as and when it comes after the plugin is out there in the wild.
personally, I think it’s a great way to build your registrations if you choose to go that route or giving everyone 10 posts to choose from will provide an extra bit of incentive for visitors to comment if you decide on doing that.
Thank you for the detailed reply, Andy. We’ll understand it better after that next video and as we use it. I want to throw an idea out here that may or may not be feasible.
IF all it takes to register is the same info it takes to comment you could add a check box for the commentator to basically “opt in” to being added to that blog’s users.
I have not yet seen a blog that has registration turned on so that idea may or may not work, but I thought I’d throw it out there.
growmap would love you to read ..Small Business GROW NOW Giveaway Extended
Hi Andy,
Given how busy you are, appreciate the reply.
Nice to know guest posting will still be available. You’ve got some great content housed on ComLuv. Too bad about the credits but who can fault you for wanting the enterprise to pay for itself.
I can see the utility in having registrations if people want them. I like Gail’s suggestion for the opt-in. If I were to use CommentLuv for list building, a simple check-box would be the only way.
Look out for the load of reviews coming your way after you get CommentLuv out the door!
(Thanks Gail and Donna for sparking this discussion and getting some answers!)
I’ve emailed Andy and asked him to come clarify.
Thanks Gail!
I’ve been interested in this plugin and see how it could really help me attract more readers to my Google Places Optimization blog, since many of my readers are other marketing pros that have blogs on the subject of local marketing too.
I’ve also wondered about Donna’s question so look forward to finding out.

Linda! It’s been a long time since I’ve run across you. I didn’t know you had a Google Places optimization blog. Going to head over there right this instant and sign up to your feed, because I can always use Places info.
Hey Donna, long time no see! Yes I switched my focus and now do Places optimization consulting and training. Still own 5 Star and keep my fingers on the pulse of affiliate marketing, but now my heart (and most of my time) is focused on Google local.
FYI to keep up to date on all things Google Places, this is a great resource too. http://www.scoop.it/t/google-places. Features top news from around the web.
Now I’m off to catch up on YOUR blog. Great seeing you again!

Hi Linda, Donna,
I have no doubt that CommentLuv is THE reason my blog gets so many comments and attracts some of the most experienced bloggers having such great discussions. I highly recommend it.
See the updated answer to Donna’s question in the comment thread below this one. Do you do only Google Places or other local search directories too?
growmap would love you to read ..Local Search Directory Listings
Just to reiterate – I don’t think even the updated answer makes sense either. I think we’ll need to clarify with Andy. The entire point of the new version is to increase registrations on one’s own blog, so neither answer makes sense to me.
Hi Donna,
It isn’t obvious when you’re the one leaving the comments that you’re registering anywhere for anything. I’ll ask Stephanie if she can tell whether the comments I just left as @DallasMetro registered me on her blogs.
And I’ll try leaving comments as @DallasMetro here and see if that registers that entity on this blog.
growmap would love you to read ..Social Media Infographics- What it REALLY Costs
Now see, that doesn’t make sense to me either. Unless I misunderstood the point of this new version (and I don’t think I did), the whole point is to increase your own user registrations.
Hi Donna,
I would have to get the new version installed in order to test to find out if the information in this comment will create a user registration on GrowMap for DallasMetro.
Question. What benefit is there to having user registrations. What can you do with them?
I have one question about the new version, and while I should probably be asking this of Andy, I’m here, so I’ll comment on it now. (And I don’t necessarily expect that you’ll have the answer).
Let’s say I’ve never used CommentLuv before, in any capacity, and I come to a site that is running the new version (We’ll call that site Blog A). I decide to sign up with that site’s commentluv and make my comment. Then I go to another site using Commentluv. Will I have to sign up there too? Or has my initial signup with Blog A updated some kind of global database that recognizes my information on every other blog on the planet that is using commentluv? If so, cool. If not, then it would be a major pain to have to sign up time and time again. Any idea on what the answer is on that?
Hi Donna,
I went over to Stephanie’s blogs to test for the answer to your question. The new CommentLuv doesn’t require registering at all. You just fill in the fields and you get your last then posts, tweets, or the last ten whatevers for the URL you used. When you go to another blog with the new plugin you do the same. You never see the “register your blog” info or have to go to ComLuv.com to register.
If you use a Twitter URL instead of a site URL you can share Tweets instead of blog posts.
growmap would love you to read ..Small Business GROW NOW Giveaway Extended
My latest reply didn’t go through at first because your site momentarily crashed, and then when I redid it, it didn’t reply to this particular comment. So, yeah, that comment way up there that says, “Well that seems to fly against the very reason he created this new version. Makes no sense to me.” was meant to be a reply down here.
Sorry – we are here at the same time. When I IMed to Kristi to confirm she installed the latest version I found out the version she installed was not THIS NEW version.
So I went to Stephanie’s blogs (she has three with the plugin installed) and the answer above your reply contains the accurate answer.
