April 30, 2015 By Dana Davis 44 Comments

Phones have come a long way. Cell phones and smartphones and Skype calls are all great – when they work. But all of these solutions are prone to bad connections and dropped calls. There are also health risks involved in using cellular and cordless phones. Use them when traveling, but in your office – including your home office – you really need a wired landline.

Why You Need a Wired Business Phone

It never fails. You finally get that new client on the phone you’ve been playing telephone and email tag with only to have the call get dropped. You try to call back – but they don’t answer or your connection isn’t working. Opportunity lost.

Why Businesses STILL Need a Wired Phone

As your business grows it is important that you have the proper resources in place to help the continued expansion and sustainability of your needs. With the telephone still being one of the main forms of communication between businesses and clients, it is critical that you have a strong phone system in place.

Many businesses have discovered the convenience of business phone solutions. Below are five key benefits of utilizing such services:

1. Unique Features

Along with performing the traditional duties of a phone line, a phone solution also offers unique features such as:

  • Increase security through two-way calling to screen visitors before unlocking the door
  • Voice to e-mail transcription
  • Data tracking on calls
  • Enhanced conferencing features

These and other unique features, such as picking your own hold music, allow you to customize yours and your customers’ experiences.

2. Easy Install

There are different types of business phone solutions for you to choose from. Some require particular equipment and utilize specific processes to complete tasks. Depending upon which option you choose, the system may require use of a VoIP phone, adapter, computer or software.

There are different installation requirements; however, they are usually quite simple. Most of the work is completed online or through the devices, so there is little labor for you to do. It is a pretty simple process as well, so you do not have to worry about expensive installation costs.

3. Flexibility

Unlike with a landline, you can easily take your phone solution with you on the go with the proper adapter. Even if your service is stationary, many solutions offer direct call transfer to your cell phone. You will have greater flexibility and are not limited to your office to complete business calls. In today’s business world, this added flexibility can prove to be very beneficial and sometimes essential.

4. Increased Productivity

VoIP, one of the main business phone solutions, utilizes the internet to make calls. This solution is a multi-tasking application. allowing its users to perform multi-tasking functions. For example, while employees are speaking with clients they can be simultaneously pulling and e-mailing files.

Features such as data collection allow businesses to evaluate phone use to develop effective ways to enhance communication processes. Such features help to increase productivity, as well as customer relations.

5. Low Cost

Business telecom solutions help to increase the efficiency of business practices. Business phone solutions enhance phone service usage within the company by combining the use of different communication avenues. This helps to reduce or eliminate the need for extra avenues, allowing companies to cut back on costs. For instance, VoIP uses the internet to make and receive calls, eliminating the need for a land line.

Along with the aforementioned benefits there are other advantages of business phone solutions. All in all, such systems help to enhance companies’ communication styles and abilities. This can lead to various advancements within the companies and enhanced practices that benefit both the business and customers. To learn more about how such services can aid your company, contact your local provider.

It was interesting to learn about how a system that can switch between cell phones and landlines can be really flexible and allow them to take more phone calls so that they can be more productive. I can see how a business could benefit from a system that is effective and installed by a professional. Making sure that they can communicate effectively and efficiently with their coworkers and clients could be really useful

      Hi Lisa,

Yes, not having reliable phone service can be a challenge. Because I use the phone so infrequently, I rely on a Skype phone number. I cannot really recommend that as the best way to go. Most people have to have a land line for business and also mobile phones if they commute, visit clients or travel.

      Hi Gary,

Yes, people who want to minimize their exposure have a huge challenge on their hands. Even if they move to the country, cell phone towers reach almost everywhere now.

There are still some places that you might be able to get away from signals if you move where there are mountains to prevent line-of-sight. More people will try to block the waves from entering their homes or be sleeping in Faraday cages.

Data tracking on calls and e-mail transcription sound like quality features that could help benefit a business owner when trying to identify what worked most in sales calls and what helped contribute to the most customer satisfaction possible. It’s not always easy to identify what an employee does that works, so these options might prove useful as well.

Reading about wired phones in businesses has me thinking about the project that several of my coworkers and I are going to be doing. We have a company that is wanting us to do a telephone & data installation for their call center. For me, it’s somewhat new because I’ve done the installation for just a small business that wasn’t a call center.

Some people are already reducing or eliminating their use of wi-fi and cell phones, but they can’t easily escape the reach of towers. Powerful people do not want to allow communities to stop even more towers going up.

These are some good points about business phones. I think that a smartphone (or some sort of mobile phone) is still a necessity in this day and age, but having a landline for a business is equally important. Your point about the cost being so low is a great reason for companies to keep their landlines. Anything that reduces overhead is a good thing!

      Hi Honey,

Actually, everyone does NOT use a smartphone – yet. Although they are growing in acceptance, about half of users don’t have one yet.

I believe that wired phones will become more popular as people realize the health risks (tumors and cancer) from using wireless technology. There are not reliable connections everywhere although more towers are springing up all over.

The primary reason businesses should keep their wired phones, though, is so their important business calls are not dropped in the middle of negotations. I use a Skype phone number and that is a regular issue – even though it is on a wired connection.
