Top Marketing Blogs on GrowMap Reading List

Twitter Share Buttons

Image Credit: Bright Edge Aug 2011 Twitter Share Buttons Bring 7x the Traffic

Adding compelling, retweetable content to what you share on Twitter benefits all who follow you and every blog you share.

In  my post on How to Use Twitterfeed, I suggested bloggers in my niche could find the blogs I trust so much that I auto-tweet their new posts as they are published by noting which came from Twitterfeed.

Since I wrote that post last October, Twitter has removed the links that showed where tweeted content comes from and bloggers have been asking me what blogs I read and tweet. Rather than reply individually I have compiled the list below.

If your followers are interested in marketing and social media you may want to read and share some of these high quality blogs. If you want to auto-tweet any of them, use my tips on using Twitterfeed to add them to your favorite Twitter apps with that capability.

TIP: Add New from @Username or Via @Username
or something similar to your automated tweets so others can
see the source and they will know you’re tweeting their posts.

They can then Retweet your tweets for
greater visibility and more traffic.

NOTE: A few of these blogs are not specifically marketing blogs, but the blogger supports social media and marketing bloggers. Others of these publish infrequently but of very high quality when they do.

The first four blogs are included because they are exceptional even though they do meet my other criterion.  It is highly unusual that a blog be included and over time I may delete these because I strongly feel all people are born EQUAL and dislike elitist attitudes.

CRITERIA for BEING INCLUDED IN MY LISTS:

(INCLUDING THIS ONE)

Here are my criterion for deciding to support your blog.

If your blog meets points two through four below,
leave a comment to be considered for inclusion.

  1. Exceptional content, but you don’t have to be absolutely polished yet to be included. If a blogger embraces 2-5 below I will include them and make suggestions to improve their content so that it gets better and better.
  2. A life view that sees other people as peers and not subordinates. (i.e., does the blogger treat others with respect, encourage and respond to comments, follow people that follow them even when those followers don’t have major influence yet themselves, etc.).
  3. Uses CommentLuv.
  4. Chooses to be a DoFollow blog – for those who don’t know, see this link for what DoFollow is.
  5. Offers KeywordLuv if they use the free version of CommentLuv or turns on Keywords if they use CommentLuv Premium.

I have collected over twenty-eight Reviews of CommentLuv Premium by many influential bloggers – most of whom meet the above criterion I use for which bloggers I go out of my way to support.

I now have roughly SEVENTY blogs in my TwitterFeed. I mention this because I’m sure some bloggers are concerned that feeding too many blogs could be an issue or cause unfollows.

I have had zero complaints so far and the quality content I feed often ends up featured in the various Twitter papers and gets RTed – sometimes even going viral for the blogger as @AdamToporek’s Google + and the Illusion of Privacy post did. (See the Going Viral section of my GrowMap 3rd birthday post for details.)

I encourage other bloggers to support their favorite blogs by feeding their content. We are all far too busy to manually do this and at least until it seems overwhelming (which it hasn’t so far) automating this just makes sense to me.

I do wish Twitterfeed would improve their system though because it appears to be sending all the tweets almost immediately instead of pulling the feeds as we configure it to do. It might be a good idea to consider using dlvr.it instead as some influential bloggers are.

TIP: Point at the blog link for a short bio
or my personal recommendation.

I will keep adding these until they’re all done as time allows.

NOTE: I am currently in the process of updating the original table by moving blogs that qualify into each featured section below. The placeholders in the table are temporary – there so that I may add new DoFollow CommentLuv blogs I find in my research.

If you know of any I’ve missed please leave details
including links in the comments of this post.

You may notice that many major blogs in our niche are not in my list. I do not auto-tweet content from any blog that publishes more than once a day which is why some blogs with excellent content such as Marketing Pilgrim are not included.

BLOGGERS: If you first thumb up and
then review this post on StumbleUpon
it would be likely to get more stumbles
and introduce more readers to your blogs.

Sharing it on Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and elsewhere
would also benefit all who are listed.

In a post with so much information, it is easy to accidentally leave someone out or introduce errors so do please let me know if you are one of the blogs I regular read or regular contributors so I can make sure this data is as complete as possible.

If you appear in my PeerIndex List of CommentLuv DoFollow Collaborators or my Klout List of Social Media Influencers you should be in this table. If you are not let me know and I will correct that.

If your blog is in Mark Thompson’s Stay on Search list of Top Marketers for which I created a PeerIndex List of Top Marketers and a Klout List of Top Marketers, contact me if you would like me to consider including you.

If you feel your blog or any site you know of should be included I won’t know unless you tell me, so please do. I may eventually find you but who knows when that might be? Today is always better than later.

Hi Rowan,

I approved your comment so I could explain to you why almost every comment you leave will be deleted by bloggers.

When you comment in blogs your comments need to add value to the discussion of that specific post. If a comment will fit in more than just that post it is likely to be deleted as probable spam.

  1. Comments that are “all about you” and invite someone to visit your blog are considered advertisements by most bloggers and instantly deleted. This is true even IF they are relevant to that bloggers niche – and especially when they are not.
  2. Commenters need to use KeywordLuv / CommentLuv Premium Keywords when they are offered and NOT put their link in the body of the comment. A link to your site is already in the name field and we are giving you a more valuable link by letting you have anchor text describing what is on that page instead of http:// whatever.com
  3. Look to see if a blog allows keywords in the name field BEFORE you submit a comment. See how I added your keywords and link in your comment and how much better than is than the link you used that I left in for comparison.

See also my post Bloggers Who Hate Comment Spam and the other links in this reply for more tips on how to write comments that get approved instead of deleted.

Thanks so much Gail for visiting my blog today and showing me the way to this wonderful list! I would love to be included!

My blog is a social media experiment where I am attempting to grow a blog and a brand from scratch using only social media. I LOVE the adventure of social media and am by no means an expert. I consider myself more of an intrepid explorer.

1. I like my content – though I have no idea if it is exceptional. I respect you a great deal and would love your suggestions on making it better and better!
2. I don’t believe I treat anyone as a subordinate. Definitely not other bloggers or commenters. In fact, not even my employees, husband, kids, or cats. I could be wrong though. I should ask them. If they say that I do treat them as subordinates, I will come make another comment and let you know.
3. I use CommentLuv+ and love it!!
4. My blog is dofollow for everyone who comments.
5. The blog has keywords turned on. This is set to be a benefit to people with 3+ comments. I can change that setting if that is a problem.

” CommentLuv+ with dofollow keywords and CommentLuv links”<–YES

Thanks Gail! I am very interested in what you are doing and learning from you. I love your straight-forward, values and ethics driven approach and your sincere focus on helping others succeed.

Hi Mindy,

I’ve added you to the best table in this post, to my Twitterfeed so your new posts will automatically be sent to my followers, and you were already on my PeerIndex Influencers list. You were also on some of my Twitter lists and I just added you to the KeywordLuv list, too.

I’d love to connect with you live via Skype or chat or whatever works for you in the near future. We just got the invitation only forum set up again and I’d like you to join.

Hi Gail,
I feel truly humbled by your approach to sharing. It has made me rethink some of my former beliefs. That’s what I’m here for; to grow and learn. I think I tried so hard to emulate other bloggers that I’ve forgotten who I am.

Hi Frank,

Welcome to GrowMap. I’m glad you realize who you choose to be is more important than emulating what other bloggers claim is important. There is never any one answer to any question. My philosophy is to provide comprehensive pros and cons and encourage each person to make their own decisions.

That said, there is such an overwhelming abundance of get rich quick and newbie bloggers (writing about what they WISH they knew as if they already knew it) that I feel people like me have a responsibility to share the viewpoint of the narrow path.

I am very pleased to have come across your blog and made your acquaintance. It sounds like you may be “one of us” – people who care about the big picture and the long term.

Hi Gail,

I don’t know if your list is complete since I saw a deadline somewhere amongst the post, but if not I would like some consideration. I’m very new to blogging, but I think I’ve met your criteria (at least #2-5, #1 is your decision to make). Although I’m into affiliate and network marketing, I’ve focused my blog on the leadership aspect of business and life. It’s an area I have some experience and training in, and one I’m pretty passionate about.

If nothing else, the feedback would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know. I look forward to hearing your comments. Thanks!

Hi Barry and welcome to GrowMap,

No, no deadline. Unlike many one-tree folks, I don’t expect everyone to know exactly what I know when I know it. New bloggers are always welcome as are experienced bloggers – my main criterion is that they care as much about others as themselves. :-)

I have added you to the table in this post and my Twitterfeed, but unfortunately PeerIndex is doing an upgrade so I can’t add you to that list yet. Do remind me if you don’t see yourself there.

After the CommentLuv Premium launch tomorrow I’ll give bloggers some time to get it configured and then prioritize the above list into groups in this order:

1) CommentLuv blogs with dofollow keywords and CommentLuv links
2) CommentLuv blogs with dofollow keywords / nofollow CommentLuv
3) CommentLuv blogs w/ dofollow CommentLuv / nofollowed keywords
4) CommentLuv blogs w/ dofollow CommentLuv / no keywords
5) Nofollow CommentLuv blogs w/ nofollow keywords
6) Nofollow CommentLuv blogs w/o keywords
7) Non- CommentLuv blogs

As you can see that will take some major checking and continual updating as bloggers change their minds. This is how I decide where to spend my time – the more generous the blogger the more I promote what they’re doing.

The higher on the list a blogger is (and that is totally up to them) the more likely they will be invited to specific projects that come with benefits like our conversion testing program and JustRetweet.

Hi Saksham,

I don’t believe I’ve seen your blog before and I tried two Twitter accounts for you and neither is live. Is getting banned on Twitter the down side of one of your marketing strategies?

Would you be interested in doing a guest post about how you’re earning $2000 a month? That would fit in with my latest posts on affiliate marketing and many of my readers would be interested.

I recently added my criteria for being included on my lists to this post and I hope to write an inspired post today about why I feel CommentLuv and keywords are so important to creating a better world for us all.

Perhaps you’ll take the dofollow and CommentLuv concepts under advisement. While CommentLuv Premium really IS worth the money, bloggers can use free versions of the various plugins it includes if they prefer.

Although that post says the deadline is Oct. 4 it got extended to noon EST Thursday Oct 6.

Hi,

They are not currently in any particular order other than my closest collaborators and a few top blogs that don’t collaborate are at the very top. In the middle and bottom they are pretty much the luck of the draw – ranked by which appeared in my Twitterfeed next which would be based on when they last published.

My apologies, Scott,

Your blog should definitely be on this list and I will add it shortly added it. In case anyone else wonders what my criteria are for going out of my way to promote YOUR blog is here they are:

1) Exceptional content (like Scott’s and the others on this list). If a blogger embraces 2-5 below I will include them and make suggestions to improve their content so that it gets better and better.

2) A life view that sees other people as peers and not subordinates. (i.e., does the blogger treat others with respect, encourage and respond to comments, follow people that follow them even when those followers don’t have major influence yet themselves, etc.)

3) Uses CommentLuv

4) Chooses to be a DoFollow blog – for those who don’t know, see this link for what DoFollow is

5) Offers KeywordLuv if they use the free version of CommentLuv or turns on Keywords if they use CommentLuv Premium.

That last link has over 20 reviews of the new CommentLuv Premium by many influential bloggers – most of whom meet the above criterion I use for which bloggers I go out of my way to support.
