Follow Friday: XLNT New Social Networking Blog

Social ImplicationsSocial Implications is an exceptional new Social Media blog dedicated to all things Social Media.

Their writers have the rare combination of intelligence, wisdom and an entertaining writing style.

Social Implications is the latest launch from Hasan Saleem whose successful sites include Directory Journal (recognized for design and quality by Lee Odden’s Top Rank Blog as a Top SEO blog) and Templates Factory Professional Web Templates.

You may already be familiar with their Editor-in-Chief, Pro Business Writer and Freelance Advice Writer Jennifer Mattern‘s edgy insights from Naked PR (really great posts there). Watch for her posts in the BizAmmo Small Business Blog and the Business Blogs connected with Directory Journal.

Their very first post, You’re Invited: Social Media Implications Premiere, exuded class and style and made me smile:

“…this event is BYOB — bring your own brain. You won’t find the sheep mentality here at Social Implications, with every tool and tactic pushed on you just because “everyone else is doing it.”

This party is for a slightly more refined crowd — those willing and able to think for themselves, using the social media information and discussions we offer to make their own decisions about what’s best for their business or their personal situation.

Does that sound like you?”

It sounds like me! If you’re serious about Social Media, since they are so new, why not start with that first post and read their entire blog?

If you don’t have time for that, jump right into whichever of these most appeals:

“…I see so-called social media experts telling business owners and executives that they should just let it go — that their customers control their image online now. So. Not. True.

Here’s a dose of a reality for you (because who couldn’t use a wee bit of that?). YOU control your image online …”

They have made this recommendation far easier because they share on their about page exactly what they have to offer:

We go beyond the tools of the trade and discuss the potential impact of “doing” social media right (or wrong).

We share tips and tactics for more effective social media marketing. We talk about how you can get the most out of social media tools when using them in your own business. We discuss networking strategies on the social Web. Whatever your interests in social media are, you’re sure to find something that catches your eye.

More importantly we blog about the implications of social media. For example:

  • How might your social media work affect your next job search?
  • Could it cost you your current job?
  • How is your business being reflected in the social media space?
  • Should you really interact with personal friends and colleagues in the same social networking environments?
  • Can a tweet or a blog post cause real problems for your company?
  • Can they help you address problems?

We’ll talk about all of that and more here at SocialImplications.com. Social media should be safe, fun, and effective. We strive to help you keep it that way.

Every site should put as much thought into how to write an about page because it allows us to instantly know whether what they have to offer is of interest to us.

Why not join my friends and collaborators who are Social Media mavens and early adopters in their own right who already read Social Implications:

Don’t miss Kristi’s recent guest post on Ari Herzog‘s AriWriter Social Media Blog about Social Media Reciprocation and finding a balance between socializing, blogging, work and family.

As a real estate company, we have primarily focused our efforts toward search engine traffic. With the adaptation of social media to search engine traffic by Google and others, we are starting to place more efforts into social media. What we do not want to become is the neighborhood social media real estate agent whose only social media presence is ‘check my listing out’ or ‘look at me’ or whatever. I took a peek at Social Implications and the site, and the authors appear to be top notch. I’ve subscribed and we’ll give it a shot. :)

    • Hi Colleen,

We are all still developing best practices for social networking. I am currently working on a post that you may find extremely interesting.

Real estate companies could probably benefit from setting up searches for cities, neighborhoods, and housing developments in their area so they could answer questions posed by anyone Tweeting about topics of local interest.

The post I mentioned will provide a how-to and a tool for the best solution I have found so far for managing those types of searches and replies.

I like their no bs mentality like think for yourself. Nearly nobody is thinking for themselves not just here with all the making money online stuff but all people love to follow and not try something new.

This statement alone convinced me to check out that blog and give it a try.

    Thanks for the recommendation!

I would also want to thank everyone else who has contributed to the post.

The “subscribe to comment” plugin has now been installed. We are coming up with a new design pretty soon. It should have been live by now but the developer working on it lives in Nashville and had a hard time because of the flood.

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions regarding the blog and I will try my best to get that done.
.-= Hasan Saleem´s last blog ..Is “Community” Overrated? =-.

    • Well deserved Hasan. Nothing but my truthful opinion found here. Thank you for installing that plugin.

My most important suggestion is that I hope you will join our DoFollow CommentLuv KeywordLuv community (DCK).

I sincerely believe that very soon Internet users will have to commit to specific communities because there are so many communities, Social Networks and blogs now that the only way to truly benefit is to join a community and use the ones they use.

We elect to use DCK and will collectively end up favoring certain Social Networks over others, joining specific blogging collaborations and not others, and reading, commenting and linking to specific bloggers.

Those who realize this and plug in the fastest will benefit sooner. I see the breakdown like this:

Traditional Business Bloggers who rarely link out unless they are being compensated in some way

Middle of the Road Bloggers who link to others sometimes but choose to be NoFollow

Friendlier Bloggers who link generously and may be Do follow or may use CommentLuv but do are not fully DCK

DoFollow CommentLuv KeywordLuv bloggers (DCK) who selflessly work for the greater good of all.

  20. Thanks for the lovely evaluation of Social Implications so far. Glad to have you there as a reader and contributor. I’m already impressed by the reader base and their constructive and insightful discussions in the comments. It’s what I love to see in blogging — posts that make people want to talk, and readers who are willing to jump into the conversation with more than a quick “I agree” or “You’re an idiot” (I’ve had much worse!). So keep it up, and we’ll do our part to do the same! :)
