Your Business – People are ALREADY Talking About You Online so You MUST Join the Conversation

I speak to businesses regularly that are afraid of what bloggers might say about them. They fear what might happen if they start using social media – or let their employees do so.

What you need to know is people are already talking about you,
your business, products and services online.

Bloggers can already write about you – right now –
today – whether they ever contact you or not.

The risk is not going online – it is in NOT
having a pro-active online presence.

If you have no major online presence and someone posts a bad review or writes something bad about you in a blog – that negative information can dominate searches for your company or products.

We all know that when someone is upset they are far more likely to write a review and complain than your happy customers – and thanks to the Internet they can tell hundreds or thousands instead of a few close friends, family or co-workers.

This Statista graph shows that roughly one-third of all Internet users had posted online reviews by 2010. Today that percentage would be much higher.

The wiser course of action is to be pro-active
and have a positive online presence now!

That way, when the inevitable happens – and someone is unhappy enough with you to write a bad review or negative blog post – there will already be more good online about you than bad.

This is why listening to Social Media is so important and why having good relationships with bloggers can greatly benefit you. They can provide a balanced view for others.

If influential bloggers online know and respect your business
and you typically do provide excellent products and services,
they will come to your defense when a negative review is posted.

Many businesses are afraid a blogger might say something negative or people might complain online. They may – but that only makes what they write more credible.

Reviews that are all glowing sound fake and are not persuasive
while those that are primarily positive and have specifics in them –
whether positive or negative – are more compelling.

You should not expect “rainbows and unicorns” all of the time – as one person I know would put it. There are trade-offs and pros and cons for every product and bloggers should write their truths, but do so honestly and tactfully.

One of the major reasons for the Gushcloud and UBL Small Business Marketing Blog Outreach Blogging Contest is so that I can mentor bloggers in how to write about businesses – to focus on the positive while mentioning any negatives tactfully.

It is also to encourage businesses to work with bloggers. As Google continues to divert traffic from Small Business to Big Brands, it is essential that small businesses focus on alternative ways of gaining visibility and market share.

Bloggers are the perfect way for small businesses to reach a larger audience.
Bloggers have existing audiences that know and trust them – and that trust is
transferable because ethical bloggers are very careful who they recommend.

Find out more about that important subject in the Free Guide to Blogger Outreach provided by BlogDash – one of our contest sponsors. It explains in more detail how bloggers can benefit YOUR business.

Seriously consider taking part in our currently
running Small Business Blog Outreach program.

It is the least expensive, easiest way to get started and you have the added benefit of being able to read what bloggers write about you BEFORE they publish so you can provide clarification and feedback.

People are going to talk about you, your products, and your businesses online.
Whether you are involved or not is up to you.

Your customers simply want to feel heard – so answering them
sincerely is the very best strategy you can ever have.

I can not encourage businesses strongly enough to get guidance about what to do online. I offer that freely to anyone who asks and can provide as much additional reference material as you need for you to know what I suggest is correct.

Getting involved in our current project is the least expensive, easiest way to get started.  Free free to contact me, Gail Gardner, directly for further information.

My resume is: if you don’t promote yourself, it would be difficult that others will do it.

Very interesting article and very interesting sentence: Whether you are involved or not is up to you

Wow I didn’t know that it’s so big the percentage of people who write reviews online and that’s only 2010, I wonder what is the percentage no. This clearly indicates that it’s of fundamental importance to give value to our customers and also don’t forget the customer support since one angry customer can do a lot of damage online, thanks for sharing…

Well stated. A huge benefit of becoming savvy in social media is that you’ll be better able to monitor what people are saying about your brand – not to mention you’ll be able to make those personal connections to people who can influence the brand’s perception.

It is quickly becoming essential. Without a proper understanding of your position online, you will quickly fall behind. Being tech savvy is no longer a quirky advantage, it is becoming a necessity.

If you want to be known to everyone and want to be popular with some extra unique factors, it’s better to take risks! if you don’t know what to do, do anything but do because doing nothing is not the right thing to do!
I am big fan of Seth Godin! Thanks

I totally agree with this post. There is a local restaurant business at my town that sadly does not have its own website, not even a Facebook page! Many people are always sharing at their social media networking sites about this resto business and they give good reviews. Many who visit my town do not even know this famous local resto, and even if they want to tell other people, it is not good enough because not even a Facebook page about it exists. Word of mouth is a powerful traditional method in expanding the customer base of any business, but you can not underestimate the power of social media sites as well.

We always have to be pro-active and keep up with the new changes and technologies. Taking into account that competitors can harm the prestige of some of our brands, we have to be deeply involved in the online environment.

Thanks for this great post, I find it so hard to find something to blog about, and to get engagement and readers. It’s frustrating when you put so much effort into a post and nobody sees it.

I do agree. A very informative article. If we talk about business, it is important to talk about it either online or offline( best on online). Everyone is participating on online, social media or even in blogs. If you are more into sales, big ideas and advertising are big help.

Agreed with your point, Negative reviews always spread like fire than any good review. So you must concentrate to have more positive reviews so that any negative review could be easily hide under it.

As a business man, being active in the Internet is one of the most important thing for me. Through the on-line business, I can able to develop my website effectively and attractive to my users and business customers. Also, in order to manage all my customers needs and concerns, I need to develop a manageable and dynamic website. An active website wherein I can able to interact, present, organize and manage my content, product and services for my users and customers. Of course, being updated in the web is also important. Things that matters also in the web is the social media sites and I need to interact on this site in order to make my business successful. As of me, I recommend that having the best and effective website development and application that will attract your customers is one way of joining the conversation in the on-line society. Thank you for sharing your post and I hope that you will accept also my recommendation.

There was a recent incident with one TV Journalist here in our country. Bijay Kumar is somewhat out-of-the-crowd VJ. In one of the ‘hard talk’ show he received a phone call and it was much criticized in Twitter, Facebook and so on. Vijay joined Facebook to defend but it was already very late. Had he been on social network already, he would have many fans who defend him and bring out the truth.

After that incident, I thought its already late for anybody doing business. Time to be proactive. Agreed with you. It was a nice post.

These were the very points I set out with when I did my series on social media monitoring. It is too easy right now to figure out what people are saying. If you just listened for a day or two, you would get so many ideas for growing your business.

Any negative review is just a chance to win some one over.

Any negative review will give you new goals for improvement.

Any negative review is a motivator for your sales and customer service reps to wow your clients.

What is hurting you the most, remaining ignorant when people are begging you too listen.
