Media Coverage: It is All About the Eyeballs. Lies and Conditioning.

Most important item for homeless survival

Why a backpack? Click image to find out.

The wind rages around the house as I write this; whistling through the eaves and throwing dog and cat dishes, horse feeders, water troughs and anything else not tied down about the yard. It is bitter cold outside and below freezing in many cities.

Meanwhile, across America, we can be thankful that most have a roof over their heads.

The problem is, collectively we are guilty of a great travesty of not wanting to know about those who do not. If you are tempted to click away, may I remind you that you aren’t four (probably – maybe someone four does actually read my blog. It could happen.)  Grownups should WANT to know the truth.

The media makes pretending so easy for us. They outright lie.
They manufacture statistics that are entire nonsense.
They spin and even ignore the truth.

They cover up what they don’t want us to know and condition us to believe their fantasies by when and what they do or do not report. Entire research agencies exist to control what we believe. Only researchers whose conclusions support what they want us to believe receive grants; those who want to publish the truth are ostracized.

COLD WEATHER DEATHS

Prevent freezing deaths by donating mylar blankets to the homeless

Donations of mylar blankets keep Detroit homeless from freezing thanks to littledsworld.blogspot.com

It is because of the outrageous statistics regarding cold weather deaths in the U.S. that I am writing this post.

As I checked my favorite statistics company for  information, what graphs are available are clearly lies. Apparently, global warming is more believable without real stats on deaths caused by freezing weather.

Turning to the Internet for research, I found some much closer to the truth about deaths due to cold, and came upon this jewel of a comment that sums up the truth about why the media covers hurricanes and not greater threats. “Crosspatch” wrote:

“But a hurricane is so much more spectacular to watch on television
than it would be to have a two-hour long report of watching a
thermometer’s indicated temperature drop in real time.

Hurricane reports attract eyeballs which sell advertising
and that is the bottom line of the “news” business.
It is really the advertising business.

They don’t lose money if they broadcast inaccurate hysteria, but they stand to make a lot of money if they can create hysteria that draws people’s attention. And if they were wrong, they can state that fact at 3am on a Tuesday morning and never bring the subject up again.

It’s all about the eyeballs.

It is in the interests of the news outlets to enter into some informal, unspoken collusion to create “issues” which attract attention. It works to the benefit of politicians, too, who can then have an opportunity to be seen “doing something” about it. Whether it is real or not is beside the point.

Create a crisis, drum up the concern, repeat the most dire predictions you can find, and have politicans jump in to “save” everyone. Everybody on the gravy train wins.

Sorry if I seem so cynical in my old age.”

I could have written these words “Crosspatch” wrote. Those of us willing to actually admit to seeing the truth about the world we live in are called cynics. Or conspiracy theorists. Or “Debbie Downers”.

People who want to stay selfish do not want us raining on their parades.
They want to keep pretending everything is beautiful and bad things
created by evil, greedy people only happen to people who “deserve it”

Don’t you see what they’re doing, yet?
By painting someone as lazy or “guilty”
they get the masses to collude in their
own system of slavery and oppression!

Why people fear and hate the homeless

Click this image to read about who the homeless REALLY are – NOT who you THINK they are.

Government agencies and law enforcement make sure most never see the hungry faces or the individuals and families who were middle class and better off than you just a month or a year or go, but are even now homeless and hungry.

The media and authorities vilify and harass them for us so they will be ashamed and stay hidden. They make being homeless and hungry illegal.

Media has convinced us that the panhandlers, alcoholics, and mentally challenged people we see are what homelessness is about. That is so far from the truth – that is NOT who is homeless in America today. Please click the image to find out more.

We have so completely convinced people that it is THEIR FAULT
if they can not afford food or shelter that even their closest friends
and family won’t know if they’re reduced to living in their car -
or in a tent in a park or hiding wherever they can in constant fear.

Why It is NOT Their Fault – And It Will Not Be Yours, Either

Why the rich keep getting richer and the poor poorer

Click this image to find out how the economy REALLY works, written in an understandable way most can comprehend.

The wealthiest few for whom no amount of wealth is ever enough – control the media, the educational system, and the government so they can make sure people are conditioned to believe that all you have to do is work hard in America and that can never happen to you. That way they can get away with highway robbery.

The wealthy few have created a game MOST can NOT WIN.
Anyone going hungry or homeless must be lazy, worthless, unwilling to work.
They sell this idea by telling everyone anyone can get rich in America!
(If that were really true you would know people who did. Do you?)

And most buy into their lies, desperate to pretend poverty really can’t happen to them – because in their hearts they know how frighteningly close to that edge they live – and their grip is slipping.

But they just keep telling themselves they’ll “round the corner”
next week, month, year…
They will
“pay off that debt” and “get caught up” any time now.

I know, because I remember my Dad saying that all the time when I was growing up: “turn the corner”.  I am fortunate to have been raised in a family that was never really in the “Middle Class”. Oh, my Dad said we were. He desperately wanted to believe we were. He was lying to himself.

Are YOU Rich or Poor? Are You SURE?

Define “rich.”

Click image to read Are You Rich or Poor?

The truth was you can not afford a family on an Air Force lifer’s pay.

We qualified for food stamps – but he refused to take them because he was proud and men are supposed to be able to provide for their families – not take assistance.

Better their children are a little hungry all the time than take a handout from the very system that makes sure you can’t earn enough to support them.

I went to college by winning a scholarship “primarily intended for the disadvantaged and minorities” because it was based on how little my Dad actually earned.

By then most moms had to work, too, and mine wasn’t able. We have gone from one person being able to comfortably (but modestly) support an entire family, to needing at least two adults working, to many people working multiple jobs. THAT is inflation.

DEBT AND INFLATION WILL PUT YOU WHERE WE WERE

What many are not realizing is that debt – yours or the government’s – and inflation – make it inevitable and unavoidable for anyone who is not a multi-millionaire to escape rapidly approaching poverty. If you work for a living – even if you have no debt – and get raises, inflation will make it impossible to maintain your current standard of living.

This short video explains some of why, but there IS HOPE. Read on below the video.

WHAT WE MUST DO TO AVOID POVERTY

There is hope. There IS something we can do that will make sure we all have water, food, and shelter no matter what the dollar does or how high the debt goes or whether we have jobs or not.

First, we have to redefine what we think is important and what we “need”. We have our priorities all wrong.  Clean water must come first. REAL food – not that stuff in packages and cans on store shelves – is what keeps us healthy and we should be willing to make whatever that costs a high priority. Modest homes instead of Mac-Mansions – or taking others into your mansion if you prefer.

Then we have to care about each other. When anyone loses their job or home or does not have enough to eat, we have to be willing to step in and help them and when we do, someone will be there to take care of us when we are in need – and I do NOT mean the government!

I consider my impoverished upbringing a blessing. It makes it clear to me what necessities are: water, food, shelter. EVERYTHING ELSE is a luxury. I am very fond of many luxuries I enjoy. Air conditioning. Heat. Hot running water.  And I realize they really ARE luxuries that many Americans can no longer afford and many around the world never even had.

We are well past the time we should be focusing on acquiring
even more “stuff” we never needed in the first place!
(If you’re in debt that goes double for you.)

PEOPLE ARE MORE IMPORTANT

People are difficult. Hard to understand. Hard to get along with – I get that. Animals are cute, soft, and don’t talk back. I get that, too. But people are more important.

Puppy and kitten sleeping

Rescuing animals is good, but people are more important!

While we have been conditioned to rush in to save cute little puppies and kittens, and we even “rescue” horses, we let people go homeless and hungry every day.

We are allowing people to DIE
Not figuratively  -
LITERALLY – DIE
From heat, cold and lack of food.
So we can have WHAT really?
Here. In America.
What IS wrong with us?
And isn’t it about time we fixed it?

This post is dedicated to all those in need. It is a message to the people in their lives and crossing their paths: friends, family, strangers, who could forgo more new “stuff” or even just a Starbucks trip to feed or shelter them – but do not.  And it is especially dedicated to those who die because we don’t care – like Tommy Schmitz’s buddy Carl who froze to death last week.

How  long will we allow people to suffer and die
because we value things over people?

“Then shall He say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:  for I was hungry, and ye did not give me to eat; I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink;  I was a stranger, and ye took me not in; naked, and ye clothed me not; sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.  Then shall they also answer, saying, Lord, when saw we thee hungry, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?  Then shall He answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not unto one of these least, ye did it not unto me. And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life. “  Matthew 25 American Standard Version

WHAT YOU CAN DO

provide a mailing address for homeless

Provide a mailing address for someone so they can get work!

There are many things anyone can do. Some don’t even cost money, such as allowing someone to use your mailing address so they can get work and receive important mail.

If you don’t have a place to keep your clothes or take a shower, it is harder to support yourself. If you are afraid to let someone have a closet, a place to sleep, and a shower you can buy them a membership and locker at a local gym. They won’t have a place to sleep, but at least they can hang something to wear and take a shower.

Food banks are feeding more people than ever before. They need food donations. They need volunteers to stock shelves, pick up food from the larger foodbank warehouses, to man the counter where people pick up food, and to deliver to people who can not pick up food themselves. Find out more on my Causes page.

Buy someone a meal.  I suspect the reason for fasting is so you can understand what it is like to go hungry.  That one thing makes a huge impact for someone who has nothing to eat.

When a family needs your help – as a mom and five kids still does – ask yourself, if you don’t help when you can, who will be there to help you?  We have to change our priorities and build communities who can help each other NOW before things get worse.

If we keep doing what most are doing, things are going to be far harder to handle.
If we change our collective ways now – even some of us -
those we help today will be able to help us tomorrow.
Will you be a leader? Contact me for details.

Gail and friends:

We owe it to ourselves to care for others, but we don’t owe it to them.

Where I think we are missing the boat is on focusing on the things we see and (feeling sorry for folks) rather than thinking about what we need to do to correct the problems for good… everyone’s good… all times, and in all ways good.

I would love to have you view, and listen “care”fully to what Dr. Ben Carson says: http://conservativevideos.com/2013/02/doctor-slams-political-correctness-in-front-of-obama-at-the-national-prayer-breakfast/

We are too busy trying to control others without controlling ourselves. We do need to feed some people some times, especially to get them on their feet. But feeding the poor isn’t the answer to the problem of the hungry or huddled masses. If we feed them today, they will come back hungry tomorrow. What we need to do it make it possible for them to feed themselves, and care for themselves. We need to teach people to respect themselves and others. We need to educate people and instead, we in America are dumbing them down, making them more dependent.

Like Dr. Carson points out: The Eagle has a left wing and a right wing and they both have to work to keep the Eagle flying right. The body will fall without both wings working together.

Instead of people having government control (regulate) every thing… we need to have people understand more. When people could go hunting and fishing without a license they could feed themselves better. Then there are a few who abuse that privilege by over hunting or over fishing… selling them a license means they will just hunt and fish and sell more at a higher price to cover the fee… paid by the person buying the spoils. Instead, if we taught people to respect themselves and their neighbors and environment better maybe, just maybe, we wouldn’t be paying so much for processed foods that aren’t nearly as good for us… and wouldn’t have to be paying the price of the land fills. We abort babies rather than teaching boys and girls to subdue their passions and be more responsible in their desires. We call that a right to chose. It should be called a right to lose. We talk about self respect… but what self respecting person aborts a baby? There may be a few for reasons beyond this discussion. An my argument isn’t against the individual but against the fact that abortions were acceptable but not respectable before they were legal. If the law allows it, it must be okay. If the law doesn’t allow it: it must be wrong. Is there any doubt as to why we are in the trouble we’re in in America today? Our laws are made by lawyers who are making good bad and bad good. We are feeling so sorry for the poor creep that robs us, because he has to go to jail and no one wants to hire him when he gets out… so we just let him stay out to rob us some more. It is our fault that we are not teaching better values. It is our fault that we are feeling sorry enough to feed the poor but not feeling sorry enough to teach them self respect: that is too much like work.

We are letting people like the leaders in the Village of Palm Springs, Fl get away with visible Corruption, because we don’t want to be bothered to view the evidence and do anything about it. How does that Corruption have anything to do with people being homeless and hungry. I’ll tell you: They allowed the greed contractor and his attorney partners to over build a community with shoddy building practices. Many of the original buyers over paid and some have lost their homes while others have struggled to stay afloat. The over building there, was not the only place that was over built in the Greed Rush to make more money and increase the Tax Base for the Village of Palm Springs… and many other communities. Those excessive housing projects took away from the older, established communities, and now both have high vacancies and higher taxes. That is money out of the (working and welfare) peoples pockets.

I am strong on self reliance… and I willing to help those who are willing to help themselves; and to help those who cannot help themselves. What I am not willing to do is help those who could help themselves and won’t; but will bleed the hearts of those of us who care. My heart is dry, my eyes are dry… the one I have left… but that doesn’t mean I don’t care. I care enough to try to get people to understand we need to do more; but the more we need to do is a different more than just feeding the long line of poor mouths who are only willing to cry about the suffering rather than doing something positive to prevent it.

I want to help others… I just don’t want to do what they can do for themselves and others. Lets teach them to fish, and share their fish, so we don’t have to do all the fishing. “Many hands make light labors.” The more of the hungry who are feeding themselves… the shorter the bread line.

Interesting post. Eye opening in so many ways. Often times we feel immune to big issues, keeping our heads down, mired in the daily grind of life. If we stop for just a second and look beyond our small, insignificant lives we will see the government and social media in a whole different light– and it ain’t pretty folks.

Search other for their virtues, thyself for thy vices. Benjamin Franklin

I awaken in a flash,
and with a thought I dash
To ask the questions of the hour,
to see if you have the power
to answer “The power of greed?”

Is it wanting more than you need?
If it is wrong for a Bankster to be greedy;
Is it equally wrong for the needy to be greedy?
Should we supply a single potato chip;
And also be required to supply the dip for some undeserving drip?

What about the simple joys of Maidenhood,
Are they as Gwen suggest: “lost and gone for good?”
Should not the poor enjoy
the simples joys like a wealthy girl or boy
But at what point is that point lost?

Is it a question that can be tossed
Like a coin in the air
To determine one’s fair share?
Should we, included with those simple joys-
Supply those little girls and boys – toys?

Where does our duty end?
Must we always be a friend;
Even to the undeserving and lazy?
The picture is a bit hazy…
Are they (the ultra poor) greedy to the core?

Can we ever even the bloody score?
What about cigarettes and booze,
At what point do “wealthier” people lose,
The ability to choose what to give the “more” poor?
When will the poor not want more?

Must we do more than keep them alive?
Is it enough to give what one needs to survive?
Should man even be looking at those odds,
And act as if they can take the place of God’s
Balance in the world?

Why should they have laid lazily while we whirled
In our efforts to give them what they need,
While we with the care pumping hearts bleed?
Of course caring people want others to have better,
So answer the questions under the upside down header…

What is it we are supposed to fulfill: Need or Greed?
Or, When will they want “more” enough to earn it?
Or, How does Government providing charity deprive us from being kinder?
Or, Isn’t it incumbent on us to make them self reliant?
Or, How is being a Robin Hood doing good taking from the Good Rich to give to the undeserving poor?

I don’t have the answers…
all I have are nagging questions…
and like you… I want more☺
Doesn’t everyone want more in some way or another?
Oh Brother- or like Poo Bear says: – Oh bother!

David, David, you really have fallen for the propaganda that the poor are poor because they are lazy layabouts. Most poor work hard – many at multiple jobs where they are paid too little while the wealthy pile fees, fines, licenses, penalties and taxes on their backs until they are past broken.

Those same wealthy elite mandate that the masses attend schools that teach them nothing and condition the young to think they’re Peter Pan so they never want to grow up. They play video games all day and all night long. Who put these addictive games in the hands of both poor and middle class alike?

Every person in every country deserves clean water, healthy food and shelter. There is sufficient abundance for all to have that much. The only reason they don’t is corporate greed that wants more and more – for them there is no “enough” and they will not be happy until they kill off most the masses they feel are worthless.

Alas, you sound a lot like them.

My dear Gail,

The problem is, you are half right. The Banksters are the greedy thieves that we both agree are harming the world and the “working class poor.”

But they are not alone in their greed. The non-working class poor is just as greedy as the ultra-wealthy Banksters. They are just greedy in a different way. Growing up with the dirtbag poor, I have seen it over and over again. They don’t mind taking without giving, and that is the same thing you are criticizing the wealthy for doing.

The Banksters who charge high interest rates, fee and other charges to keep the workers coming back to the Company Store screw the working poor. “I loaded 16 Tons of # 9 coal… and what do I get, another day older and deeper in debt, St Peter don’t call me, cause I can’t go; I owe my soul to the Company Store.” I’ve seen it. I’ve lived it. I am living it now. The difference is I’m older and wiser than I was back then… so I use equipment to load my coal as it were today.

But what you have to understand is the other side of that Greedy Coin.
Sure, I agree whole-heartedly that poor people deserve clean water, and a healthy environment, and enough food to feed their families. They may even deserve some other things… if they work for it.

Moreover, I agree whole-heartedly that the Banksters are controlling the government including the education… including the TV babysitters, and the dummying down of America.

But there is a difference between the “wealthy” which is pretty much anyone who has more than you have; and the “Ultra-Wealthy Banksters.” Moreover, there is the same type of difference between the “deserving poor” and the “undeserving poor” and one of the funny things about it is this: The “deserving poor” don’t deserve to be poor; and the “undeserving poor” deserve to be poor but you’re not letting them have what they deserve.

When you lump all of the poor in to one basket, and all of the wealthy into a different basket and you place yourself and others in a saintly state of Middle Class do-gooders… you start trying to solve the problems of the poor and poorer without realizing that some of the poor don’t deserve your concern; and some of the rich don’t deserve your wrath.

If you are a good (non-greedy) caring person, do you picture yourself and those others who want to spread the wealth as being the only people who care? You’re not. I care. And there are an awful lot of other folks that care… and the government is stealing that caring from us when they are the ones who spread the wealth. They have to take it from us to give it to the poor… the Super Wealthy have them in their pockets.

Years ago I as a debt collector. I know you may think I’m a terrible person because I worked for a company that wanted to collect the debt from the dead beats. At that time we charge a lot less for our credit that Sears did. We were lending at 12%, which today is modest, but it is still too high. When Sears and others were charging 18% interest. Personally, I think the highest rate anyone should charge for anything is 10%.

And some of the people I met I felt sorry for. There was one couple that were married and in love with each other. They told me they were getting a divorce and could carry the debt once they did because the government would help them then, but would not help them now because they were married.. and those were the rules… you know our morals have decayed significantly with the rise in welfare… if we were doing such a good job… why are there so many more poor now than when Johnson Declared War On Poverty? They were not the only couple I helped back then… but then I never felt bad about collecting from the dead beats. Put you concerns where they will do the most good… with the working poor and middle class.

Look again. Before you criticize all those Ultra Wealthy Banksters and other businessmen because they are raping the public by making all the money they are (earning?) charging.

I want you to go look in the mirror and look at your own earnings. Not just what you are earning now, but what you earned as an IBM employee. Then look around at your IRA and other Investments and those of your middle class and working class friends. How much return on investment are YOU and YOUR friends demanding to get on your investments? IBM’s are middle class people who have retirement programs and other wage and benefit packages that many worker only dream about having.

I’ve been a Stock Broker, more aptly a Bonds Broker, and a Real Estate Broker and I can tell you that people want to earn MORE …not less. People, normal everyday people, want to buy low and sell high. You can’t lie, not that you want to, but you will not buy a house, a stock, or a bond if you’re not going to WANT TO and EXPECT TO earn MORE.

Investments are sold on the Greater Fool theory. Period!!! Exclamation point. When you buy for investment, you are hoping, expecting, desiring that some other fool is going to come along and pay more for the same things you just bought. Tell me it isn’t so.

If you’re buying a Bond, you’re most apt to buy that bond so you can “earn” more money on your investment. So you either buy it at a discount, which means you’re getting a lower interest rate but you bought the bond for less to “save” money up front while “earning” interest over time. If you buy at par, you’re expecting to earn whatever the current interest rate is and your paying the going price for that ability… but if you can get a higher interest, you’d be willing to pay a premium for that Opportunity” to “get” MORE.

What have I just said: YOU and YOUR friends and the Great Middle Class in which you belong are Greedy. You may not be CONTROLLING the greed; that is what the Ultra Rich Banksters do. Right? No that is wrong. You and your friends and I are all greedy in our desire to want MORE. It may be a matter of degree… of greed… or type of greed… but it is still greed.

And when you want MORE for the Poor, especially the undeserving poor, including some of the working class poor… then the MORE you want for them is somewhat Noble and somewhat misplaced… but when you boil it down… it is just another form of GREED. And those Undeserving and deserving poor will take all you’ll give them. They are like you and me: Greedy.

The difference with the working poor and working middle class is that we are at least willing to work for the more we get. You’re willing to work for what you have. At least I think you are. You are a very bright and caring lady, and I appreciate that about you. However, you are a bit misguided to believe that just because one is poor that they deserve your sympathies. I know blind people who work for what they get, and blind people who beg from others… “Oh, poor me, I’m blind.”

Here is something you didn’t know about me Gail. I only have one eye. I am half blind. I was a 10th grade high school drop out until I was 22 years old. I was thirty before I finished college. It took me 8 years to get my 4 year degree; And then I went back to school after that, and busted my can working up to 3 jobs at a time to get what I got out of life. So now, I’m one of the deserving poor… but I don’t believe I deserve to be poor. And I don’t believe you and the rest of Middle Class America deserves to be poor either. But that is what is happening here. And railing against the rich isn’t the answer.

Maybe you don’t think you deserve to keep everything you’ve worked for, but I believe I deserve everything I have… and a lot MORE.

I have no problem with people helping one another… that is what Churches and Civic Organizations are suppose to be about. But when I see preachers and high officials earning hundreds of thousands, even millions of dollars a year while sticking their hands out for 5 and 10 bucks or less from the general public… that bothers me.

Every time I see something from some political organization whether it is Democrats, Republicans, Tea Partiers, Patriots or whoever say something about Freedom, or Forward, or helping the down trodden poor with their hand out… that bothers me. And it bothers me because I know that most of the money raised is going to the collectors, not to the cause they are touting. 121212 isn’t that just double 666. Oh yes, it is More by double.

I know you probably think Minimum Wage is a good idea. I don’t. And here is why: First of all it is not the Government’s business to raise salaries or to be in the UNION business for anyone; but mostly because they are not doing it to help the poor… they are doing it to unionize the poor through a government work and tax dues payment plan.

Free people ought to be free. And that includes being free to change jobs. Free to tell their boss that they will not work for “that wafe” or salary or under those conditions. Free to start their own business in go into competition with the greedy SOB and take all his good employees and leave his the rest. Make the SOB work for what he gets.

But the second reason is that raising the Minimum Wage harms those who have advanced on their own merit. Let’s say the minimum wage is 6 dollars an hour. I’m going back in time but the way they raise the rates is by starting low, and then continuing to raise the anti as time goes by.

Government says that a wage (like 6 and hour) is too low of the minimum wage of workers and they require employers to pay the workers 7 dollars an hour. 6x 40 hours is $240. A week and we both know a person is going to have a hard time to live on that wage in these days in time. So the 7-dollar an hour will bring them to $280.00 a week, or an extra $40.00 per week… whoa, what a lovely lift in pay. And just think; they didn’t have to flip one extra hamburger or make one extra widget for the extra pay.

It’s great for that beginning worker who doesn’t know what he or she is doing. So your feeling sorry for him and giving him or her that raise is greatly appreciated… until you have to give him or her … or the people under him or her a similar kind of raise but as time goes by the increase has to be MORE in relationship. If you gave a $1.00 increase this time, the next time it will have to be $1.25 or$1.50, etc., and up and up it goes.

In 2006 when they raised the minimum wage, I was already paying my beginning worker more than minimum wage. But something happened and that is: As wages rise, so does other prices… and if prices don’t raise, then what? I’ll tell you what… the business owners who have invested their time, talents and money have to make up the difference out of their profits… greedy people that they are… they raise their prices as soon as they can… which isn’t soon enough for business that were baring making ends meet.

Let say you own a little million-dollar hamburger franchise with 30 employees. All of those workers aren’t making just minimum wage, some have worked their way up the ladder. Some are making 8 an hour, some 10 an hour and a couple of managers are making 12 an hour. Beside you and your spouse who are overseeing the operation and doing the books. So your bottom 10 workers and new hires get a raise of 40 dollars a week. That is about 400.00 more in payroll than you paid the week before. So do you think those new and lower paid employees are going to sell you 400 more hamburgers, or widgets? Not likely.

But wait, you have 10 more employees who are making 8. Dollars and hour that are now making a (relative) dollar less. As are the other 10 employees. So you get 10 happier employees and 20 less happy employees because now they want MORE too. Don’t forget you and your spouse who are making $400.00 a week less. I’d bet you’d be unhappy too.

Now let’s look at the upper ten employees; you have to can one of the 10 ten or twelve dollar an hour workers, and raise another of the happy employees up but he or she is now only going to get a dollar more than the lower class where as before the raise would have meant a 2 dollar raise.

The $400.00 can’t come out of your pocket (Can it?) so you “can” it (him or her, the higher paid employee) you have to get rid of because you’re going to have to do that or eat the loss, and you’d rather eat your own hamburgers than lose money just because some good doer wanted to pay your least productive workers more. Do you feel the pain of the ‘canned” workers yet?

Now if you can tell me how you can make that $400.00 a week up without raising prices, with out eating the loss, and without getting rid of one or more of the higher quality workers, I’d like to hear it. What if you had a company that had to raise the pay of 100 workers like I managed at one time, or more than a 1000 workers as some large companies have… remember that the big companies may not have as many “Minimum Wage” employees but all of the hourly employees that didn’t get a “raise” got a reduction in their Relative earnings… and of course they now want a raise too. Don’t they? Isn’t that human nature? Where is the money coming form?

A business owner cannot just sell more goods because he or she wants to… and those workers are apt to raise the economy as quickly as they cause the recession caused by the raise in minimum wage. I know, I had to lay off a better quality worker and keep three of my lesser quality workers because the better worker was making $12 and hour and I had to use the money I saved to pay my other worker to work more hours.

Gary had started at $6.00 an hour and worked his way up. I gave him an average of a .50 an hour raise every six months until the government raise the minimum wage and I started losing business on my rentals because people where losing their jobs and they couldn’t afford what they had been paying. Gary couldn’t see his way to work harder when he was getting relatively less… so I had to let him go.

You don’t think McDonalds, Burger King, Wendy’s and the other places have dollar menus because they want them do you? They have struggled to say in business… those that have. And they are raising their prices just as soon as they can. You can bet on that. They want more, and so do we.

We (the public) don’t shop at Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot and the other big name stores for nothing. We shop there, the dollar stores, and go to flee marks, second hand stores, and yard sales because we want MORE for our money. We the public are greedy. We want what we want, including beer, cigarettes, and potato chips and more time off to watch TV or go to Disney World or what ever it is WE Want to do MORE of in that off time. Of course when I say we I don’t mean me because I don’t smoke, eat chips, or drink beer when I can get scotch, bourbon or rum.

The point is: We want MORE sick days, More Vacation days, More retirement Packages, More free health care… We Want More… and whom do we want to pay for the More we want? Somebody else… so you can’t say you Want the POOR people to pay more… that wouldn’t make sense. So you want the Rich- the Wealth- to pay for the More you want to Give to the Poor.

Well I don’t want to burst your bubble but the Super Wealthy is not going to pay the price. They make you and other think they are with their ploys at having you rail against them…by having the politicians pretend to care… while the wealthy laugh their way to the bank… actually they bank by computers these days… so they don’t have to leave home; but the bottom line is this… the people who are going to end up paying the most are the Working Poor.

If you take it from the Rich and give it to the poor the Rich are just going to find a way to take it back and charge a higher interest on it.

The only way to beat them at that game is to stop stealing from the rich and make them lower their rates or stop doing business with them. Learn how the game is played.

If you want to feel sorry for someone, feel sorry for the Gary’s of the world who work their way up and then someone pulls the rug out from under them and their boss. Feel sorry for the working, thrifty class… see the scene in It’s a Wonderful Life when George Bailey defends his father and that thrifty working class to Mr. Potter and the members of the Board.

You’re half right about the Banksters, but you’re all wrong if you think the poorest poor don’t need to get off their hips and on their knees… and a few prays would help while they’re there. And being only half right makes you all wrong when you lump all the poor and all the rich in their separate baskets and think they are all alike just because they have the same title.

David,

The government was never supposed to be doing what it is doing. It is supposed to protect the borders and that is about it. We the people should have stopped big government long ago because it is the cause of most of all of that.

We have a society that incentivizes not working and makes it nearly impossible for a huge percentage of the population to get a decent education, a job or start a business. That is stupid – but that is the truth.

Governments never shrink unless the public screams loud enough and keeps demanding it. Otherwise, they grow. Welfare is one of the worst – if a woman tries to get off by taking a job that pays less than here welfare check, they threaten her with loss of health benefits for her children. Since all are conditioned to believe they much have health insurance that effectively keeps people willing to work from escaping the system.

CPS is even worse. Once they have a child they medicate them and stall and refuse to return them to their parents even after the parents are proved innocent. For more on that see that section on http://SMBContest.com/causes.

Your idea of what I made at IBM or make today is laughable. IBM did not pay their techs enough for them to be investing in anything – and the only way those of us who know better ended up in the stock market was through having our real pensions “converted” into what were at the time illegal “cash” pensions. We instantly lost about half what they were worth and then the stock crash took most of the rest.

There is no middle class left and most of those who thought they were middle class never were. My parents claimed they were – even though we qualified for food stamps. My Father was too proud to take them, so we were always a little hungry even after we just ate. Thankfully I got a job in the high school cafeteria before school and at lunch because I was rather fond of eating.

And those were the “good ol’ days” before inflation really started cranking up. In the ’60s, I remember the gasoline wars when the price dropped to $0.25 a gallon. There was penny candy in machines. In the early ’70s we bought candy bars wholesale for a nickel and sold them for a dime for high school fundraisers. What those cost now is an indication of how bad inflation REALLY is versus what the government claims it is. (Few realize they don’t count food or fuel in their calculations! What a joke that is.)

When I rail against the greedy wealthy I do not mean people who make a million dollars or even several. They will be lucky to be the new middle class and they won’t be for long. I don’t even mean the 1% – I mean the .01% greedy evil-doers who have taken over the world and are too stupid to know they are destroying the only planet we have with their insatiable greed.

This post is an eyeopener. Looking at it, we have been manipulated several times by nothing else but GREED. What you said is true: People are more important. You gave me an idea about volunteering, I’ve done this in the past but because of my busy schedule I haven’t done so again. Now, I’m thinking of going back in becoming a volunteer. I just hope this whole madness that they feed us, gets a halt ASAP.

My dearest Gail part II

I was following one of your treats… about Yelp Reviews. And I agree hole half-heartedly with him and you. Below I have used Eric Brantner’s review as a model… as you were right in thinking he did a good job in making some valid points about reviews.

“Yelp and similar sites is a good way to narrow down your choices or to choose a place to go.” Maybe… but: “relying too much on Yelp [or anyone’s review] might not be the best idea because there are some significant flaws with the site (and many other online [and offline] review sites) that need to be taken into account.”
1. They ” might not provide quite the unbiased and informative opinion that people hope. Some of the potential reasons that Yelp [Or any review] might not be 100 percent trustworthy include the following:”
Anyone can give a review…and some reviews are planted. People have their own reasons for saying what they say either pro or con about something… we all have opinions; they are not necessarily accurate or unbiased.

Anonymous or not, knowing of the source does not mean you know the source, or their reason for the opinions they have. Unfortunately: “people are free to say whatever they want, whether it is true or not,” without worrying about being found out if it isn’t true. If they can get their most loyal followers to believe them, it doesn’t matter that others don’t believe what they say.

There is no guarantee that the person doing the post actually knows what he or she is talking about…” There have even been cases of negative reviews showing up”… from people who have never been in a Masonic Lodge meeting telling the world what they think the Masons believe based on false analysis of a psycho’s reading of a few signs and symbols… and yelping about things they know nothing about.

Let me tell you a personal story about one such review, Years ago Dr. Robert (Bob) Dalton mathematician friend of mine and I were at a function to recruit Scout leaders at a local middle school event sponsored by the local Jaycees, of which Bob and I were members. Neither of us was involved in the Boy Scouts other than volunteering to help in this one event. Bob was a noted scientist doing underwater sound studies for Government sonar research; his math abilities were much greater than my limited skills.

But there we were together in a local school room where the event was being held, chatting about whatever while waiting for the program to begin, and a mother of one of the boys… I don’t know if she thought we were teachers or not… but she asked us how to solve a mathematical problem.

Bob proceeded to explain it to her in graphic detail on the Chalkboard. I hope you understand how spur of the moment stupidity, or a tremendous sense of “I know better” can overtake someone, because rather than agree with this mathematical genius I proceeded to tell him he was wrong and went to the board with my explanation of the solution to the problem. To this day, I don’t know which of us were right.

Bob couldn’t get over it, in a humorous way, and wouldn’t let me live down the fact that the mother believed me, instead of he, who was much better in math than I was. We laughed about it together through the following year.

I don’t remember what the question was, but so much for convincing presentations. They don’t have to be right to be convincing. People may believe the least qualified over the most qualified… what can I say? It happens.

So when it comes to Masonry I think I have a higher authoritative right to speak about Masonry than those who have never been a Mason and who are only looking in from the outside of our closed doors. Taking excerpts and bits and pieces and putting a puzzle together to make a mismatched mosaic that may be as artistically pleasing as an artificial Picasso, but has no more realism than one of Grandma Mosses’ simplistic interpretations, doesn’t strike me a giving one a clear picture when it is formed by a false impressionist view. Art is in the eye of the beholder: But the reality of Truth does not change with the wind or the Artist’s interpretation.

People may believe something that just isn’t true. I have been guilty of thinking I knew something that as I looked back at the problem I have no idea which of us was right or wrong; but since the lady didn’t know that Bob was a Doctor of Mathematics and I barely made it out of Symbolic Logic and Probability, today, I would be inclined to think that Bob, Dr. Dalton knew a lot more about the subject than I; an outsider to the field knew.

As I look back at my many years as a Free Mason I have never prayed to anyone but God. There may be times that “Jesus” is mentioned by name by a Chaplin in the Lodge, but ours is “a Fraternity of Brotherly Love “ and that is not meant to be misconstrued into thinking we are any one Christian or non-Christian religion. A strict definition of Religion may mislead one to think we qualify as a “Religion.” But we do not preach, and we- for the most part- practice what is preached in various religions and run our lives and our “business meetings” as opposed to a religious service. Confusing our “Moral Codes” with “Religious Teachings” is a mistake. Please don’t make that mistake or allow others to lead you astray.

If we were a group made up solely of Christians then one might have a complaint if “Jesus” was not mentioned by name more frequently. But in every Christian Church I can remember attending even as a boy attending a “Church Of God;” Tent revivals; and other holiness meeting; God the Father was always mentioned in the Prayers. How does the Lord’s Prayer go, that Jesus taught his Disciples to pray: “Our Father, who art in Heaven, Holly be thy Name…”

Some people do reviews in dishonest ways. In retrospect it may have been dishonest for me not to tell the lady that I was not the authority, and that Bob was; but in the heat of the moment of thinking I was right it didn’t occur to me that Bob probably knew more than I did on the subject (and remember I was 40 years younger and not as smart as I may have thought I was at the time). And even if he was more knowledgeable in higher math it could be that I was more correct on that particular problem. Something people of lower authority know things that higher ups don’t know. But I find it hard to believe that someone barred entrance to a Masonic Business Meeting could hope to know more about what transpires in one of our meetings like someone who actually ran, and continues to run different meetings inside those closed… and guarded doors.

Now take for example, the taking of information from a small group; a few people; or even just one person; then declaring that everyone in the group is just like that one person is, or those few people are (or was/were). How fair do you think that is? Branding the many because of a few? Most specifically because on “one.” And how fair is it to present only a few excerpts and base your opinion on a sliver of information… especially information which may be distorted by someone who knows nothing more than what “they” think. Ask yourself if you’ve been fair with us. Ask yourself if you would want to be slandered because you’re a blogger just because another blogger said something that someone else took offence to, when that someone didn’t known any more about what they were talking about than a person… not standing outside the door… but outside of the building.

That might be like saying: Since most of the top leaders in the Village of Palm Springs have done dishonest thing; like allowing those questionable items I have found in Resolution 2003-31, Allowing shoddy building practices; and then failing to enforce items in Resolution 2005-32… which they said were the “Right things to do” when they voted on and passed the ordinance, on June 9, 2005; that not only is everything they have done dishonest but therefore all of the leaders in every community acts just as dishonestly as those specific people did. That is not fair to the honest people. Is it?

I’ve heard that the Congress has had as low as an 8% approval rating; I would think that people who know what Free Masonry stand for, and how well we achieve our goals over all that we would have at least a 92% approval rating… and that’s an “A” in my class… regardless if 8% give us an “F.” What rating would YOU give the Mason you dated? Do you judge us all by what he did, or didn’t do?

While I might agree with the fact that I think the Mayor, John ‘Mike’ Davis; Village Manager, Karl Umberger; Head of the Building and Zoning Department, Bette Lowe; and most if not all of the Council members in the Village of Palm Springs, in noted “Corruption County” Palm Beach, Florida are guilty of Racketeering; I would not go so far as to say that all of the Village Employees are as corrupt as those specific leaders are. And I would not say the politicians in all communities are corrupt just because some are.

That is almost like saying: 95% of all attorneys give the rest of them a bad name. Ok, it would be more like saying 5% of attorneys the rest a bad name. The truth is it is easy for us to believe that those giving others the bad name represent a larger portion of the population; but if we believe our politicians are honest hard working people then we are more apt to believe the crooks are in the minority. I believe there are a few wayward Free Masons, but for the most part Free Masons are good men made better by being Free Masons.

What is not true is that there are a large percentage of wayward Free Masons, even though I will concede that there are those few who do what they are not supposed to do; I highly doubt that number is as high as you would find in the general population, and probably no greater than you might find in the average Church group. Even so, I think it is wrong to sully the name of the many just because you can point out a few Elmer Gantry’s.

As your recommended writer Eric said about the Yelp Stars: “The star system on Yelp doesn’t have a clear-cut meaning.“ The fact is that not every Past Master or other Masonic Leader is of equal quality to all other Past Masters. One could be “impeccable and perfect [within the realm of being superior] or it might mean that…” The Past Master “ was acceptable … and met “… the basic standards …”but was nothing spectacular.“

My feeling is that a Past Master who didn’t understand Masonry any better than Jack Harris did; could not have been a spectacular Master.” So I agree with Eric and how that might apply to Masonry; “Without some objective explanation attached to what each star means, it is hard to make a determination on exactly what the star rating indicates about” the abilities and understandings of the position of a Past Master. Some are better than others. Some are not as good.

While Free and Accepted Masons earn the title of “Worshipful” for life and beyond once they have become a Past Master that should only apply to the Brothers who remain true to the Craft. I would not call Jack Harris; or any other Past Master who has disgraced himself by breaking his sworn oath: Worshipful.

And I will not debate the point about whether a person is ‘supposed’ to swear an oath or not… once he has done so, it is incumbent on him to abide by his words whether he swore it or only said it in front of witnesses.

Another thing that correlates is the fact that “ There is a very small group of restaurant visitors actually reviewing on Yelp. Most people read reviews on the site but don’t post reviews themselves. This means the site may be primarily populated with reviews from people who had a really bad experience or a really good experience, since people who just have a mediocre time may not be inclined to bother to go on a website and [write] reviews.”

I would have thought from what you said about having dated a Mason that you would have had some very good experiences if you had dated him for any length of time, especially if you were taken to meet some of the honorable men in higher positions. But as I’ve indicated (while we don’t have a Star System as such) as a person works his way up the latter of success he is expected to have learned a thing or two about improving his moral character. Still, we are limited by the individual and other factors such as native intelligences and previous learning experiences or quirks of a particular person.

I have only personally known two Brothers that have fallen far from grace (it happens) and I have known a handful of Brothers who I might not enjoy a brotherly relationship with outside of Lodge, one of which was my own real brother at different times in his life. I think he finally grew up when he hit 70. Now we get along quite nicely. It may help that we live hundreds of miles apart. What I’m saying is there are those in your own family (if you’re like most of the people I’ve met over the years) that you wouldn’t call your best friends. But I would say that I have more Masonic Brothers that I trust, and would rather spend time with than most people in the general population have. Or Masonic relations makes our relationships better.

Let me give you a quick example of a Mason Brother. I was at one of our District Lodges about 30- 40 miles from my home Lodge a couple of months ago for a special event. While I was there I lost a set of very important keys that I had had clipped to my belt loop. I needed those keys. Since I had ridden with a friend and neighbor fellow Mason I didn’t miss them until I was home. I called a couple of members, who I didn’t know personally at that time (because another member at that Lodge referred them to me and told me it was they how had keys to the Lodge).

The Brother who had just been elected Master for this year went over to his Lodge building, found my keys on Saturday Morning, and called me to tell me he had them. I told him I had a Tall Cedar Meeting that afternoon and couldn’t go to pick them up till later or maybe even the next day or so.

Without asking, Eric Ellis, now the Worshipful Master of New Smyrna drove from New Smyrna to Deland and delivered those keys to me and drove back home without a second thought of the incontinence, or the cost to him. He knew I needed those keys and that was all there was to it. We are now very good friends. And yes! If the shoe had been on the other foot, I would have done the same for him or any other Brother. That is how Master Masons are supposed to Love and care for one another and our fellow non-Masons when we can.

One thing about our signs and symbols is that I can tell a brother I’m in distress, or a Brother can tell me he is in distress without even speaking regardless of what our native Language is, and we are there to help one another. I can go to any Lodge in the World, and have friends waiting for me there. And vice versa.

While the members of my congregation at my church would do anything they could for me, as would the members at my last church; but I don’t see Christian in Churches as willing to help someone at the drop of a sign, or signal that a Brother Mason will do. At the same time I’m not saying we’re perfect. Some brothers go to the Blue Lodge on a regular basis… some you seldom see. But if a Free Mason has Masonry in his heart he will be what a Mason is supposed to be: Within certain limitations of course.

Of Course, I don’t think you can honestly tell me that the Christians you know in your church don’t have any limitations with what they will do for another Christian just because he or she claims to be a Christian and shows you the sign of the cross.

One of the objections to Masonry seems to be that we are not an exclusive Christian organization. I would feel a lot safer, and believe the world would be a lot safer place to live if we had more Muslim Brother Masons.

The one place that Muslims, Christians, and Jews all get along is in a Masonic Lodge or gathering. When we meet we are all of the same faith: Brotherly Love and affection. And that my dear is what I think Jesus wants for us. Not bickering. Not telling one another that only we know the way to Heaven. Not belittling others because they don’t believe like we believe. Those things are divisive.

And if I’m wrong to worship God the Father, then so be it. I’ll be wrong. And if I am wrong to want to get along with my fellow man; then I am wrong. And if I’m wrong because I will let you call your God: Jesus and at the same time let my Muslim Brother call his God: Allah, and let my Jewish friends call his God what ever name he in his language has for God then I will be wrong in thinking we are all talking to the Same God. But as I’m going to be wrong, I might as well be happy about it. The one thing I am not happy about is the non-believer in Masonry telling other people we are Devil Worshipers: That I will not stand for or abide by. It is a lie!

… I’ll finish for now with Eric Brantner’s concept; “ For all of these reasons, it is important to remember that while Yelp provides a good source of information, it also has some significant limitations that you need to consider when deciding how much weight to give to the stars on the site.”
And the same can be said for any review: “Consider the Source.” In real estate appraisals the appraiser will throw out the best and worse and settle for the center mark… That doesn’t work unless all you want is just a mediocre concept of the value of things. And Free Masons are not mediocre or just average people… we hold ourselves (as imperfect as we may be) to a higher standard.
I hope you can see and understand that looking at signs and symbols and coming to some kind of guess work conclusion about what they mean, or put some far fetched meeting to something you (or anyone else save he be a true and lawful fellow Mason) cannot know about. Without being a tried and true Free Mason; no mater what you Think you Know about Masonry is not Completely TRUE even if it has elements of the Truth, and even after years of Study some people fail to have a clear understanding because, like the alleged Past Master Jack Harris, that you know about; he didn’t brings the capacity to comprehend what our teaching to remain upright among men means.
If one does not start with a basic understanding of what it means to be dedicated, true, and loyal; and by that live up to one’s word… then the Moral obligation means nothing to them. And if a man will betray one trust, he may betray another. The one positive thing about Jack and Paul’s presentation is that it should have dispelled any notion in your mind that we Mason’s worship any one or any thing but God: God in any form; or by any name; is still the great Architect of the Universe.
So the writers and filmsters that have degraded them selves and us with their slander will pay the price in God’s dealing. About the most I can say is: “Forgive them Father, for they know not what they do.”
RELIGIOUS TOLLERANCE WHAT A NOVEL IDEA Someone ought to write a story about it☺

Sincerely,

David Z. Eunice

Hi David,

While some of my readers may complain about your long comments, you spend so much time on them, in respect to you I will not delete this. You need to understand that each of us must listen for the Truth and make our own choices.

You will never convince me or anyone else who understands Satanic symbolism that you are right, and we are not trying to convince you that you are wrong. You are ignoring what Albert Pike himself wrote and specific warnings found throughout The Bible and only you will answer for your beliefs in the end.

It is not for us to judge; we leave that to the Creator God. I do encourage you to pray and listen. I believe there is ONE Creator and many following Satan’s original lie who hope to become god which they can never do. As long as you keep insisting Masonry is wonderful you will never look at it with open eyes, but that is your choice to make. Since women can not even become Masons there is not even any reason for you to try to “convert” me to your way of thinking.

Please refrain from any more lengthy posts regarding Masonry here because that is not the subject of this blog and therefore these may annoy my other readers. I will have to delete them – and I do not wish you to be wasting your time. We must agree to disagree.

This article, along with a few things that happened over the holidays really got me thinking and thinking hard about what life is really about and what is most important in our lives. One thing I can say for sure is that it is most important to keep others in mind when you start getting a little greedy or thinking about what YOU want. In the end what is most important is taking care of those that can’t take care of themselves.

You have shared such a warm share to take away the chilling cold. This share made me ponder upon a number of habits which I possess. I normally keep cribbing upon the lack of wonderful winter dresses, forgetting about the people who are homeless and face dearth of warm clothes to face the chill. I should be thankful I am blessed with enough warmth which is appropriate to take care in this cold weather. It is true, at least this season we should spread warmth and care by providing the needy people with warm clothes to do away with the bitter cold and other necessary things. Thanks for sharing this wonderful post.

So true! I admit it, people often forget about what kind of luxury we can live in! We only need to push a button, and there will be heating. We only need to screw a handle and there will be water (warm or cold). And we often forget about other people, who aren’t as lucky as we are. There are some really nice design concept for homeless people and nomads as well, our mother nature has already shown her might and power, we all are small ants and it doesn’t depend on how much money you have or how big your car is…

Hello Jeffrey,

We must be cautious about falling for the bandwagons major media pushes that are intended to get us to believe issues are so large they are hopeless. All people in every country deserve a roof over their head and enough to eat and to be shown how to make a living. The only reason that does not happen is because we have allowed a small number of greedy, mega-wealthy to destroy our ability in every country to be self-sufficient. The cure is to reverse the process.

There is world hunger because they intentionally create it. The first thing they do is give “support” that requires a country to stop growing their own food and instead grow commodities for export. The solution is to never take their money. Be adults and work together to create your own economies that feed yourselves. Do NOT let them steal your natural resources or privatize your water or you end up like Detroit.

Stop falling for hoaxes like AIDS. If it truly were a sexually transmitted disease as they claim it is every one of us would know dozens of heterosexual people who died from it because sexual promiscuity is the norm in the U.S. (thanks to media conditioning). Many have had dozens to hundreds of partners – some even thousands. Why are they not dying?

HIV is a virus. AIDS is a collection of symptoms – not something you “catch”. The acronym actually means “ACQUIRED immune deficiency” and the primary way people end up dying is from taking BigPharma’s poisons that destroy your immune system. In every commercial you see that is a prominent side effect.

“Modern” medicine “cures” people by hiding the symptoms. If your mechanic did that, instead of adding oil when the check engine light came on they would unplug the light and your vehicle would die. You would fire them for incompetence – and that is why an ever growing number of people know the best way to live longer and healthier is to avoid doctors and never take chemicals that destroy your immune system.
