Increasing Incoming Links: THE Most Important Way to Increase Online Visibility

September 14, 2008 · 11 comments

Few realize that as complicated as it is to do it well, building a site is the easy part. No matter how beautiful, brilliant, or useful your site is, if no one can find it your work will come to naught. Behind the supposed secrets of SEO (Search Engine Optimization), and search engine listings, and submitting directories is one great truth: you have to make it easy for people to find you.

The secret of being found on the Internet is the same as the secret of real estate: Location, location, location. You must be sure links to your site are placed where your target audience already is!

This is not hard to do. It is very time-consuming. If you can afford to pay someone with experience and exceptional skills I highly recommend you do so because what they know will greatly increase their results.

If you can’t, just start doing it yourself and learn as you go. Any links are better than no links.  Read the posts here and the links to the recommended resources if you want to learn this skill. Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Beware of using automated submission sites or software. This is NOT recommended as it can cause more issues than benefits.
  • All incoming links are NOT created equal. Focus on quality links from related sites. Avoid links from what many refer to as “bad neighborhoods”.
  • Do NOT Buy Links - (There can be exceptions but this would be an advanced skill best avoided until you know clearly what your intent is and how it may affect your search engine placement.)
  • Do NOT waste your time posting on free-for-all link sites – Few read them except for others enticed into wasting their time posting there. They are considered bad neighborhoods.

I encourage those interested in learning a very valuable skill that can allow them to make a comfortable income through helping others to focus on learning linking. If it seems overwhelming at first, become a specialist on just one part of linking. We will help anyone who is sincere learn and send them work. More on that will be posted here regularly so be sure to either subscribe or visit often.

Great advice and i liked your all recommendations on incoming links. Rightly said incoming links are more important for making website more visible and it is time consuming job but very effective. In my case it is easy to find quality site but hard to find related one. If you have any tips on how to find relevant site kindly share it here. I really curious to read it. Thanks for the advisable article.

We are in a constant battle to increase our number of inbound links – at times even paying for them. In my opinion they are not as important as being able to convert the traffic that you are already getting

While there are so many ways to build backlinks, I found that the best way (at least for me) is article submission. You can build lots of truly quality one way backlinks that you are sure will be there forever (at least in most cases). Not to mention if you use a submitter tool or develop a simple method for fast submission (like I did), you can build lots of links fairly quickly.

Hi Satrap,

If you mean ORIGINAL articles yes those links last over time, but if you mean many submissions of the same article you’ll find that they will get filtered out as duplicates pretty quickly these days.

“Do NOT waste your time posting on free-for-all link sites ” true, but sometimes i think people struggle to know where to obtain one way links

Hi Neil,

The best links are in content links on related sites and the way you get those is by developing relationships with the owners of other sites in your niche. Blogs that allow comments and especially those that use CommentLuv make that easy.

Link Building is considered as an off-page SEO factor because the value is determined by another page. Anchor text in your inbound links is the main factor when building backlinks. The Search engines manly rely on link popularity, the higher the link popularity the greater the chance of your site’s visibility.
Link Building is a time consuming process. It should be thought of as a long term goal. An effort made by you today will result in better search engine rankings for tomorrow.
