Why CORN is Killing Us: HFCS and GMO FOOD

Why we need GMO food labeling

Why we need GMO food labeling

Until Michael Pollan’s book The Omnivore’s Dilemma few Americans would have guessed that there is corn in almost everything we eat including every individual component of a fast food meal to almost everything on the shelves in your grocery store – even in places you would never imagine.

Corn is made into high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) which is most likely present in the majority of the bottles in your refrigerator today: in salad dressings, ketchup, sodas, and anything sweet – and even many things that are NOT sweet.

There has been much media coverage about the HFCS Food issue and it is an ingredient best avoided or at least severely reduced in your diet.

If you are what you eat -
and especially if you eat industrial food -
as 99 percent of Americans do –
what you are is “corn.”

Most of the food in the grocery stores today AND almost all fast food contains corn:

Are YOU Feeding THIS to YOUR Children?
Most folks assume that a chicken nugget is
just a piece of fried chicken, right?
Wrong!
McDonald’s Chicken McNugget is 56% corn?

Chicken McNuggets contain 38 “quasi-edible substances
that ultimately come not from a corn or soybean field
but from a petroleum refinery or chemical plant”.

So What Really Is In A
McDonald’s Chicken McNugget?
Chicken McPoison
Eat a little Butane, anyone?

There are two major reasons a diet made up almost entirely of corn is a major concern:

  1. High Fructose corn syrup
  2. Most corn is genetically modified.

What you need to know about Genetically Modified Organisms aka GMO:

Scientists seem to believe that intentionally injecting known toxins into what we will eventually eat is safe. They are called toxins for a reason – because they are toxic!

Just because something won’t kill you immediately
does NOT MEAN it does not cause chronic health issues
or even death as it accumulates in your body.

Most chemicals that will kill a bug will kill us too – if we consume sufficient quantities. Remember, too, that we are not talking about ONE chemical or toxin – we are talking about regularly ingesting hundreds or even thousands of toxic or man-made foreign substances!

There are plenty of factors that contribute to an organism getting sick. If the pet consumes food from genetically modified sources, we can only conclude that it will get sick in the long run. DO NOT FORGET: GMO food sources need huge volumes of herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides because they cannot handle drought, fungus infection or infestation of insects. Gawler Vet

This is a hard one on one hand the people who are catching these diseases are blaming the corn. The thing is there are many other factors that are contributing to the increase of these ailments and a fundamental review in society is needed to sort the whole mess out

Wow, what a load of propaganda. Maybe another reason to why people are getting so large is because of lack of exercise. Did you ever think of that? You can’t go blaming food for being the main reason when there are studies saying gmos are no worse than organic. I would much rather each gmos than organic food because of the risk of diseases already on organic food.

Hi Matt,

What motive we I as an individual blogger have to generate propaganda? Many people do not have enough energy to exercise because they are consuming few nutrients and too many chemicals and toxins.

What do you think people ate before chemical fertilizers existed? I believe everyone has a right to eat what they choose. If you want to eat gmos and take your chances regarding what the long term effects are that is your prerogative. You might read some of the studies – unless you just want to pretend they’re safe.

But for those of us who do NOT want to unknowingly be fed concoctions created in labs I suggest they stop buying food from any multi-national corporation because they can not be trusted. They are fighting labeling and diluting what organic means.

Twisting the stats and spinning their words to hide the truth is what they do. The sooner the few who know what healthy nutrition is realize this the better. The rest of you who believe whatever you’re told can just go on eating whatever they package.

There are no ‘diseases” in organic food. People ate them for centuries and lived or we would not be here today.

A well rounded diet and regular exercise can normally keep most of us healthy. New products can be very promising but do require years of testing. While trying to help to world feed itself science must push boundaries in order to advance.

Hello Ed,

I disagree. To feed the world requires going back to the basics of growing organically using heirloom seeds. Do not buy into the propaganda that we need GMOS to feed a growing population. They have not been shown to produce more volume and they have known health risks.

We can grow enough food locally to feed ourselves – and learn how to quit breaking the cycles of flood, leaves, worms and other organisms that live in the soul and replenish it.

It if factory farming monocultures and shipping food around the world that are destroying our health, our economies, and our ability to be free of control and oppression. Wise people are returning to the land quietly to avoid being harassed by those who want power over us.

Genetically modified organisms or GMO is a very interesting topic in science. It receives tremendous amount of criticisms from people who may lack understanding about this scientific breakthrough. But there are moments when I get scared of what might happen once all the food that we eat are already modified.

Lose fat. Reverse disease. Be healthy. Be better. It used to be easy. As recently as ten years ago, fitness was the result of simple adherence to a few rules. Don’t eat fast food, eat proteins, veggies, and starches, lift some weights and do some cardio. Now the healthy foods are toxic, the wheat is genetically modified, we have new conditions like gluten intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, metabolic syndrome, and insulin resistance. We have second-hand smoke in our air, fluorocarbons in our cookware, BPA’s in our water bottles, formaldehyde in our homes, and even the produce aisles are filled with frankenfoods.

It struck me when you said, “Most chemicals that will kill a bug will kill us too.” Reason being, it’s not news that toxins are placed in our food. But, she the junk down our throats anyway.

You also mentioned about the accumulation of toxins to create chronic conditions. This is important, because most people do not stop at eating corn. They have their corn-fed burger and then light up their cigarette that contains over 250 killer chemicals.

Thank you for the great post.

Corn is not to blame, it’s the people eating it and how much they choose to eat. Corn is in a lot of cheap foods, and that is why it is most likely getting the bad rap.

Hi Kevin,

Most commercially produced corn is GMO corn – and HFCS is most likely one of the largest contributing factors toward obesity and bad health so it deserves the “bad rap” it is getting. When food is devoid of the nutrients our bodies need people have to overeat to try to get the minimum requirements. Add to that the fact that many foods – and especially anything with Aspartame in it – are intentionally made addictive and it is no wonder so many are obese.

Hi very enlightening. If not a bit scary. This is the problem in the world we live in today. We are only given the information that the people at the top want us to know. It takes articles like this to let us know the rest.

So for that thanks lee

One only has to look at a typical gathering of people these days: about 20% of nearly spherical in shape, would have really stood out pre-1970′s. Now these massively obese people are just typical. Something certainly has changed. It is likely diet has much to do with it.

Corn is cheap and that’s why all the fast food places use it. Just look at the first ingredient on a bag of cheap dog food (corn). That goes to show you how cheap corn is, when it is the first ingredient on a cheap bag of dog or cat food.

And from what I’ve read the average human eats two pounds on insects per year. Considering the FDA allows a small amount of bugs in food products such as roach legs and rat hairs. I know it sounds nasty, but my point is we could be directly ingestion all kind of chemicals from directly eating bugs.

Although I agree in principle that corn has become ubiquitous in the average American’s diet, recent studies also suggest that high fructose corn syrup is no better or worse than any other naturally derived sweetener. The Bible had it right… enjoy all things in moderation.

Studies are funded by the multi-national corporations. Any researcher who does not publish studies that support what THEY want us to believe can lose their positions and find it nearly impossiblee to get grant money.

Only the naive should believe studies funded by those who financially benefit. Look around us. BEFORE high fructose corn syrup there were never so many people with weight and health issues. Common sense will tell us that it is seriously detrimental to our health to consume anything that God did not create for us to eat.
