Even if your small business could afford a Super Bowl ad – at $3.5 million – there is another form of advertising that would benefit you more and consistently bring you far more business.
And the good news is you only have to pay to have it submitted ONCE to get free advertising on Google Places, Yahoo! Local, Bing, Superpages and hundreds of other local directories indefinitely*.
Completely Free Advertising
You can do it yourself manually, or create your own listings through Universal Business Listings (UBL – what I use), but there are MAJOR BENEFITS to having me do it for you including your not having to do anything except provide your business information. I will handle EVERYTHING for you.
What does it cost?

DOES FREE LOCAL ADVERTISING WORK?
- See UBL Webcard examples of actual listings I have created and compare them to any other listing created on UBL. What you see in those examples is what YOUR business listing information will look like – listings that will be sent to hundreds of major sites including Google Places, Yahoo! Local, Bing, SuperPages, YellowPages, Yelp, Merchant Circle and sites about your location and industry.
- Local Search Case Study showing UBL listings generated 75 new visitors for every 100 visitors Google sent.
- Appliance store local listings generating 30 New Customers a Week.
- Enhanced local search listings generate new traffic of 81.32%
* Note: Some databases and directories may remove your listing if you do not renew annually but most do not. There are other benefits to annual renewals – and they are fast and easy to do once you’re in UBL.

Great offer but as far as i know Bing and Yahoo local only cover the US. I tried listing my Canadian business there without much success. Am I missing something?

There are hundreds of directories and niche sites that send traffic to small businesses. We must all look beyond just Google, Yahoo! and Bing as sources for traffic because they favor multi-national corporations.
I will be speaking with UBL about which countries they have coverage in. They are continually expanding the benefits for small businesses that use their service and I will get more detail and share it with my readers.

I am trying to advertise my site throw free directory submission, but most of the times my site is not listed, can you please tell me that what is the reason behind this.

For the same reason that most bloggers are going to remove your links – because your site may be doing something that is illegal. Have you been following the Mega Uploads issue? See that link for how it affects ANYONE who has EVER uploaded or downloaded anything from that site.
Even as much time as I spend online, it is not clear to me whether watching movies online is illegal or not – so I err on the side of caution and never do it except on YouTube or Hulu – and honestly that might be illegal, too, for all we know.
It is also highly likely that sites that offer free movies could be phishing sites or install something on your PC – another good reason to avoid them.

Like in any online free submission process you have to follow their submission rules. Maybe, you have violated their rules that’s why they did not include your site in their directory.
Universal business listing will work perfectly well for my new business. I tried working it manually but it takes a lot of time. I am happy to get this listing that works automatically and will promote my business. Thanks for the share.

I am interested in this. How much does it cost and what type of business is it most useful for?
This should not be overlooked by anyone. I tell members of my Chamber of Commerce that they don’t even need a website to get free internet traffic.
In fact, I take it one step further. I print out a QR code of everyone’s Google Places and Yahoo Local listings and hand it out to all the members so we can scan the codes with our phone and give each other reviews which will get you to the top!

Another winning and game saving shot here! good advertising strategy is really important in one’s online business, spreading the words and services through submission to various advertising sites and that’s a great advantage, indeed. Another factor is gaining more exposure and just like what this post cited they can make things light for you! Great info about the UBL, can’t heard anything from it before. Thanks for this informative post.
I signed up and I am already seeing traffic from this tactic. Thanks.

Wow, GrowMap saves the day again! Never heard of UBL before now but am getting excited just thinking about the possibilities!
Your thinking is better but I want to say that use facebook advertising also . Suppose you have 50000 facebook likes and when u put any update at least 5000 people will click on your link so free 5000/- traffic to your website.

While using something like UBL is great for local businesses, I think it is important to remember that it is only good for local customers. If the business is trying to target a market a hundred miles away they will need to use other methods as well.

UBL can be great to promote your business in the starting phase but to make it grow more you need to put in more effort and tools.

Actually, using UBL is good for ALL web sites because it provides you with valuable incoming links from major authority sites which boosts all your listings in the search results. It also provides more credibility to be listed in those directories.
Yes, you do have to also focus on methods that are geo-targeted to your location but that is always true whether your business is only local or national or international. I write about why EVERY blog and business needs to add a local aspect to their content and marketing all the time. See the post I will put in CommentLuv.

Hi Jordan,
It would apply to individual BLOGS as long as they have a physical address and phone number they can use. You could get traffic to individual pages if you include keyword phrases in your descriptions and keywords that describe posts or pages you have that can be found in a search engine.

Its seems as if Google is trying really hard to give small businesses a chance perhaps this is due to the uproar they caused from the implementation of social search and them giving themselves more visibility through shares on Google+. Either way they have worked really hard to reward websites that are creating useful content.

Hi Greg,
Actually, no, Google is pushing small businesses down in the organic search results and favoring big brands so small businesses need to get serious about increasing their traffic from everywhere else.
