UPDATED Sep 24, 2011
A DoFollow site is one that allows the search engines to follow a link from their site to yours. This increases the number of incoming links to your site, increases the likelihood that someone will locate you when searching, and improves your site’s position in the search engines. We all have a limited amount of time so why not make it count?
Focus your NEW community building in blogs that believe in dofollow! Read about How KeywordLuv Benefits us All
- DoFollow blogs are more likely to have really active and loyal communities and commentators
- Bloggers who believe in Do Follow are far more likely to visit and comment in YOUR blog
- They have a positive effect on your blog’s position in search engines like Google
Do remember to maintain your involvement in any active communities you’re already visiting and keep an eye out for quality blogs and visit them even if they are not DoFollow. Then use the DoFollow Tools linked below to find new places to participate.
The use of DoFollow and plugins like CommentLuv, KeywordLuv, Lucia’s Linky Love (anyone have a link that works or know if the Lucia’s Linky Luv plugin still works?) and others is growing so spend some time and select blogs that you will really benefit from interacting with because the content they offer adds value to what you do. Implement plugins that encourage conversations.
WARNING: Some blogs that Use CommentLuv and/or KeywordLuv are No Follow. We use the Highlight NoFollow links function in the SEOBook Toolbar to verify them. We also recommend adding your dofollow sites to and and using this Verify Dofollow service.
Some blogs do revert to no follow because it does take a little more time to manage SPAM. The lists below will contain some blogs that are not still DoFollow but they are still valuable for locating blogs. You can usually use the SEOBook SEO Toolbar to instantly see whether comment links in a blog are dofollow or nofollow. (Some sites do block this function).
Or use the DoFollow Blog Search Engine to quickly determine if blogs are really Do Follow. You can also use that tool directly to search by keyword. It returns only those blogs that are confirmed to be Do Follow at the time of your search.

Hi,
Surely commenting in do follow blogs is a win-win game, we need to use it in a more sagacious way. Astute comments are like jewel for blog site and they would reward us with a back link, but its ranking to see how many inane people use it insensibly.
Thanks.
Hi
I want to introduce you to another dofollow search engine: http://www.seo-traffic-guide.de
It is a little bit different from all the others, as you are emailed a comprehensive list, you can then sort by PR, dofollow, extensions like keywordLuv and commentluv and of course you can enter your own notes in the excel fiel you get.
I’d be happy if you could try it and perhaps add it to your list of dofollow tools?
Mike

In my opinion, excellent quality, relevant inbound links will help customers and search engines find your business website best. Getting back links/ inbound links from do follow is very easy. But getting quality back links/ inbound links is a difficult task.

Hello anshul,
Do you believe dofollow incoming links are not of the same quality? While links within the body of posts are considered stronger, as long as your comments are in related blogs, dofollow links are of high quality.

Thanks for the useful post, and debate in the comments. There are pros and cons to KeywordLuv and CommentLuv. For me, CommentLuv has a slight advantage as it provides a deep-link to a blog post, as well as a general link to the homepage. Assuming you have keywords in your post-titles, you get the best of both.

When I do searches for do follow blogs that are in my niche there are only a couple. But there are so many that are no follow. Do you feel I am better off doing comments on non-related do follow, or related no follow? I hear that no follow is not completely ignored.

Hi Tracy,
Remember that your comments reach real potential buyers and that is just as important as where you are listed in the search engines. If you have stats or analytics you can use that to see which of the blogs – including the nofollow blogs – send you visitors.
Then you can prioritize them as to which are most important. When time is tight, focus on those that are dofollow and those that send real visitors. When time allows comment on some of the others.
If you can directly track conversions spend more time on sites that send buyers and not just visitors. Read Why Conversions are Vastly More Important Than Increasing Traffic for more details on why.

Hi! I’m Sela from Kentucky, Canada. Thanks for posting these lists. Real great help for the my link building initiatives. Just a question on the KeywordLuv plugin. When I put my name along with the keyword on an entry I commented on, my name was also linked when it’s not supposed to. How to deal with that?

Hello and you’re welcome. When you added your name did you enter it as name@keywords? If you did it should only link whatever is entered after the @ sign.
I suspect that some of your comments will be deleted because of the nature of your business. Many, myself included, would consider selling essays unethical. By the way, the navigation in the left column of your site does not work on either of my PCs in any browser.

Hi Yuva,
The thing about commenting is there are many gray areas regarding what is permissible and what is not. That is why I don’t make a lot of rules here. People are busy and you can’t really expect them to read your comment policy every time they visit or to remember your particular rules.
The really sad thing here lately is I am getting what appear to be very high quality, well-written comments but they are spam so I’ve been deleting them. That makes me wonder if I should rethink that policy.

You’re welcome. Do check out the dofollow tools mentioned. They should lead you to some niche sites interested in guitars. I also recommend reading my post about Selecting Keywords.
If you make your posts shorter and focus on what particular type of guitar or type or guitar part that will make them much easier to locate in the search engines.

Hi Davids,
Like most other bloggers using WordPress we do have Akismet installed. We also heavily moderate comments including those that get through Akismet and rescue valid contents that get picked up by it.
.-= Internet Strategist @GrowMap´s last blog ..Add a Twitter Field to Your Comments =-.
Here is a solution to the Spam problem. Change the posts to NoFollow and add the “Top Commentator” utility. It is unlikely that Spammers will put in the effort to reach top commentator status. They will leave. There is a huge advantage to becoming a top commentator, such as a link from each page… huge link juice. You have to really add to the conversation. Any spammer attempting this would quickly be spotted.

Hi Brian,
While that would seem to be a simple solution many bloggers find that their commentators who were adding to the conversation suddenly start leaving any old comment to achieve Top Commentator status. There is no simple solution because we can not control the bad behavior of others.
I agree that Top Commentator plugins do provide a greater advantage to those who appear in them – at least for now. It is difficult to say what Google is going to do next. They are seriously anti-dofollow.

I never heard of the Lucia’s comment plugin. But that’s the cool thing about those plugins because you just need to find a new one and start searching for it on google.

While I do not personally use Lucia’s many major bloggers do. I know that you can configure it to have new commentator’s comments nofollow until they reach a threshold number of approved comments (usually 3-10) and then all comments become dofollow.

Hello Lindamood,
Yes they do if people make real comments. Unfortunately many people are selling businesses dofollow comment spam. Those get deleted whenever they’re detected and all bloggers really wish those folks would find a more ethical way of making a living.
