DoFollow Lists of Blogs, Social Networking Sites and Forums; DoFollow Search Tool; Understanding Do Follow, No Follow

UPDATED Sep 24, 2011

A DoFollow site is one that allows the search engines to follow a link from their site to yours. This increases the number of incoming links to your site, increases the likelihood that someone will locate you when searching, and improves your site’s position in the search engines. We all have a limited amount of time so why not make it count?

Focus your NEW community building in blogs that believe in dofollow! Read about How KeywordLuv Benefits us All

  • DoFollow blogs are more likely to have really active and loyal communities and commentators
  • Bloggers who believe in Do Follow are far more likely to visit and comment in YOUR blog
  • They have a positive effect on your blog’s position in search engines like Google

Do remember to maintain your involvement in any active communities you’re already visiting and keep an eye out for quality blogs and visit them even if they are not DoFollow. Then use the DoFollow Tools linked below to find new places to participate.

The use of DoFollow and plugins like CommentLuv, KeywordLuv, Lucia’s Linky Love (anyone have a link that works or know if the Lucia’s Linky Luv plugin still works?) and others is growing so spend some time and select blogs that you will really benefit from interacting with because the content they offer adds value to what you do. Implement plugins that encourage conversations.

WARNING: Some blogs that Use CommentLuv and/or KeywordLuv are No Follow. We use the Highlight NoFollow links function in the  SEOBook Toolbar to verify them. We also recommend adding your dofollow sites to and and using this Verify Dofollow service.

Some blogs do revert to no follow because it does take a little more time to manage SPAM. The lists below will contain some blogs that are not still DoFollow but they are still valuable for locating blogs. You can usually use the SEOBook SEO Toolbar to instantly see whether comment links in a blog are dofollow or nofollow. (Some sites do block this function).

Or use the DoFollow Blog Search Engine to quickly determine if blogs are really Do Follow. You can also use that tool directly to search by keyword. It returns only those blogs that are confirmed to be Do Follow at the time of your search.

This is good only if they do not change their tags to no follow. Also if they auto accpet most of the sites become spammy and Google gives little to no value on those sites.

Blog commenting especially on do follow sites as increased my rankings enormously and also traffic to my site. I have coupled this with article marketing on do follow article directories as well as the use of social media. My site is now doing well.

I am finding a lot of non spam interaction on ‘dofollow’ blogs. However, I would like to see a block feature for spammers.

Dofollow links may be a good idea for a blog, but what would you do with spammers (like me now :) ) who post there message just to post it (not like me though). So, can one make a dofollow blog but not spend too much time on moderation in order to get rid of spammers.

Hi Vince,

I do my best to convert spammers to blog readers who leave valuable comments so that they benefit both the blogger and their blog, site or business.

Hi Vince,

We are all socially responsible net users. Rather cluttering a blog with irrelevant contents, I would prefer to stick with 5 to 10 high PR blogs, which are relevant to my content and comment on their posts on a regular basis – as a sensitive and responsive commentator.

DoFollow blogs are obviously the best source of backlinks. Bloggers make a dofollow blog to get instant popularity; in return commentators get quality backlink from an established blog. A good deal for both side.

But we the commentators can offer the bloggers an incentive by offering a link back from our website by writing a review, Press Release on behalf of the blogger. I think we should incentivize the dofollow bloggs for their bonhomie, which I am going to make a habit. Are You?

Thanks a lots for sharing your great blog with us.

Wow thank you so much for putting together such a great article so packed with resources.

I have one curiosity about dofollow that I haven’t been able to answer yet – somebody on Ana Hofmans (great) blog said something like ‘I don’t mind giving away some link juice to someone who comments on my site’ which to me implies that by making your site dofollow you are therefore ‘losing’ some link juice (whatever link juice is).

Does it basically mean when your site is being crawled that the crawler leaves your site and goes off somewhere else? Sorry for the naiivete of the question but I am a little confused by it.

I love the idea of sharing, have ccommentluv (which I really like) and always give credit where cerdit is due but our site is very new and I’m trying to build ranking and traffic, I’m considering making it dofollow (though I don’t acctually know how yet) but I’m also worried that if I do so it may slow my own progress in terms of rankings/traffic (or how much ‘juice’ I get??)

Not sure if that’s an easy one to answer but I’m goiing to take a look bacck over this article a few times when I have a little more time (you have crammed it so paccked with info it will take me a while!!)

p.s. one thing we do focus on on our site is really great quality content which I heard is the main thing for ranking now these days anyway, right?

many thanks for your help & best wishes,
Alan

Hi Alan and welcome to GrowMap,

When people talk about link juice they are referring to Google PageRank and the theory that the amount of “juice” a particular page has is divided among the outgoing links on that page so the more dofollow links there are the less “juice” that page keeps and each other link gets.

I am not certain that anyone REALLY knows for sure exactly how PageRank is calculated and it could change at any time so even if you devised a way to test it the results might not be true for long; however, there are many who believe they know:

How is PageRank calculated

Google page ranking algorithm

Because Google has a monopoly on search many obsess over search engine traffic but focusing on that is going to lead to a dead end as they first send less targeted traffic and then less and less traffic.

It is much wiser to focus on real people instead and to use links for their original purpose: an easy way to get to additional information. Bloggers who collaborate provide an alternate path for visitors and there are separate communities of bloggers that exist primarily because of a difference in ethical positions.

You can see what I mean by that in my post on Blogging Ethics.

Thanks for the response, I figured it’s a bit like that – i.e. something that a lot of people comment on (pardon the pun) but no-one really knows.

Whenever people talk about ‘tactics’ for traffic that always seems like a bad approach anyway. The fact that Google are so good at what they do kind of dictates to me that the best way is to simply write good comments and make everything genuine including the links in your articles. That’s what I feel most comfortable with in any case!

Doesn’t stop me trying to learn what everyone is on about with these various terms (link juice, outgoing, ingoing, shake it all about going, on page, off page, backlinks, one-way, do-follow, no-follow, keywords, meta data, long tail keywords…) all of these were completely alien to me not so long ago but I’m getting there – thanks for helping me to understand one more term in your alien language ;-)
