“BloggerLuv is a lounge for active bloggers to connect and trade ideas and where to get what resource.”
BloggerLuv was started by John Sullivan who recently wrote a post about Dealing with Better Spam Comments. I wrote a long comment for that post and want to share it again here. It explains why I believe we need to think carefully about our definition of spam:
I’m sure many reading this probably already know that I am one of the champions for supporting small businesses and welcoming them into our blogs. Since John opened the door I want to explain briefly why I feel the way I do.
Spam originally only referred to automated comments left by bots – not comments written by humans. That said, I consider any comment whether written by a human or not that is NOT about the post it is left in to be spam.
Akismet is a major problem because many people we know who never spam have been flagged as spammers and many bloggers have a box checked that instantly deletes whatever they write in OUR blogs – and everyone else’s. There are posts about that in my blog in the Akismet category.
The only comments and links I recommend we not approve are those that are inappropriate or link to bad neighborhoods (adult content or gambling related). You can also choose to delete links to sales pages, Made for AdSense (MFA) sites or poor quality sites if you wish.
The questions to ask yourself is who does it hurt? Who does it help? Why do I care? I’m sure you’ll make the decision that is best for you.

I love CommentLuv and it is so great to hear about bloggerLuv. I will definitely have to check it out. I also learned something new about Akismet. It’s scary that sometimes you may be using something and don’t realize that it can have a negative impact.
Thanks so much for the information.

It is good that you recommend these kind of plug-ins to your readers, for “Commentluv” especially this is done to give reward to your visitors by giving them link juice every time they’ll leave comments on your site.
I did not know about bloggerLuv, I’m heading over to join..

Encourage a community and discover new posts. with commentluv you provide visitors a nice place to build backlinks to their sites. this is like a two way growth you help them gain links but they also help increase traffic to your site as well..
Comment luv keeps the content quality high on your blog which is beneficial to someone wanting to comment or not. No-one is going to want to post if the blog is full of irrelevent spam. I’m a big fan of this and will definitely be adding it to my blogs. Thanks

What a good idea luv could make my blog go sky high. I will be adding this great tools to my blog and hopefully bring in a few hits my way, It sounds like it is re-energizing the blogging community and rewarding readers who help add value to blogs. I couldn’t be happier to see it really catching on. Thanks for all the great information!
Blogs are a kind of social network space, where the crowd comments and good discussions take place instead unique person opinion. Unfortunately, the spammers invaded this place.

We need a forum just for us, believe it or not I collaborate with AlliedBloggers and P50 a Google group of bloggers where we email each other for support on a daily/weekly basis. It generates lots of emails but is like a collaborative group.
Anyone can find me DragonBlogger on Skype, I usually have it on when I work from home, so if I am online you can instant message me.
If I had the time and money to invest, I think bloggerluv is worth considering.
I think the $3,000 is what the site could earn from 1 years worth of backlink sales, ad sales, sponsored post sales based on Alexa rank if someone had the time to invest.

Thanks for the link shouts Gail.
I am a little late to this post, oh well, sorry about that.
I think bloggerluv needs John there as much as anything, that site would be a good investment for someone as long as they do things right, change too much as the place could lose it’s appeal.
But for something to seriously build up, that place has big potential.
The biggest asset is the people there… keep them lot sweet and you would be unlikely to go wrong.

Hi Rob,
I’m not sure what John is going to do. Lately it sounds more like he isn’t going to sell BloggerLuv (which is why I confirmed it with him by phone before I published the part about it being for sale).
If someone were to buy, it would make sense to keep the people who are there and most likely John would still hang out there too. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.
