This is a guest post from Murray Newlands sharing a new social media monitoring and management solution.
Social Media Monitoring
It’s the new year, and if you’re like me, you’re taking a good, long look at your business goals and the services you use to achieve those goals. If your goals include lead generation, networking, becoming a thought leader, engaging in more conversation, or understanding your competition better, then I want to introduce you to Alerti social media monitoring and management service.
This short (under 2 minutes) video shows how to set up alerts in Alerti:
Alerti is launching their new English language service and iPhone app this week in the US and UK, and I think they have the tools to stand out in the crowded social media monitoring and management service space. I’m excited to be working with them. In short, Alerti provides simple, effective tools in a single interface for the real-time collection and management of the relevant information from around the web.
They give you all the standard metrics of the big boys, from sentiment analysis to custom graphs, along with an efficient work-flow dashboard in a single interface. You can delegate results out to your team and respond to social media posts from your own Twitter or Facebook profile without leaving the Alerti interface. You can create as many queries as you need, and you can customize your graphs.
Social Media Management and Monitoring Tools
I was reading Media Bistro recently and found a survey of people who use social media monitoring and management tools. One of the things that caught my eye was that only 1 in 3 consider themselves “happy” with the social media monitoring service they are using. Really? Don’t you deserve a service that you are “happy” with?
Excerpt from KissMetrics OneForty Infographic: Social Media Monitoring Tools Satisfaction Survey Results ~ Click Image to view Entire Infographic Enlarged for Easy Viewing
What did those respondents say was most important? The metrics offered, the interface design and the integration with social media networks.
Social Media Solutions Drawbacks:
The biggest complaints those respondents had were:
- Excessive lag time/ fails to provide reliable, accurate data
- Excessive bugs/ Confusing to use/ Lack of innovation
- Too pricey- features don’t justify the cost
Alerti Benefits:
Here’s how Alerti stacks up:
- Results are updated throughout the day so they are always fresh.
- Their team is constantly keeping the service efficient and innovating. The reason they created the service was out of their own need for a simple, efficient tool- it’s why they put everything in a single interface.
- The plans start at $15/ month. This is for the same features many companies charge over $100/ month for, mind you.
Want to try out their service for FREE for 3 months?

Hello, Alerti has some nice features that other monitoring tools don’t. Considering some of the google analytics alternatives, I could try this one.
There is a way to monitor social media statistics through GA, I read a great post on Kikolani blog about that one.
Cool info.

we just started using this tool, after reading this article. So we’re reporting back as we find stuff. So far it’s working well, I like that having set up an alert you get email notifications when that alert is updated so you can go in and address/reply to the new messages that match your alerts.
The only thing I think we’ve found so far that isn’t great is that you can’t restrict your search to one country. There is a country drop down but it is inactive and set to worldwide, for some searches it is important to narrow a search down to comments originating from one country or even one city. Maybe this is a feature that is to come in the future? Or maybe it’s just not working for us? Anyone know?

Im learning social media research and monitoring I guess I have t try out this tool. It’s great to have a 30 day trial. I’ll get back here as soon as I tried using it and give some comments about it.
I haven’t used a social media monitoring tool before. I have always spent most of my time promoting my sites and making social media campaigns that i forgot to keep track of the result. I will try this tool that you have shared. I hope my efforts are fruitful.

This is the first I’ve heard of Alerti, but it seems like a handy tool. The statistics surprise me regarding how dissapointed people would be… I know for a fact that I’d be very dissapointed, all I can think is that the 51.2% who would be somewhat or not dissapointed- are not getting the most out of Twitter, or the OS they are using isn’t offering a good experience.
Hmm your post inspired me to try Alerti. Fact is that i was not using any tool to monitor my social media efforts but i think i should. Your video was good but at some places screen was not that much visible. I would like to ask you one thing do we need to add sites that we want to track?
I mean to say as you show in the video to monitor the forums and articles sites we just need to click the forum and article box. I want to ask whether we need to add which forum and article sites we need to track or is there any inbuilt database for these sites and Alerti will track on its own?

Hey Daniel, we just started using this too, so am reporting back as we find stuff. When you set up a new alert you chose which verticals to monitor, eg you chose articles and/or forums and/or microblogs (inc twitter) and/or social networks (inc facebook). It’s not more specific than that, so no you don’t have to select individual news sources or social networks etc., Alerti decides which sites within each vertical to monitor, more likely, rather than only monitoring a fixed list of sites the query string for each vertical searches for particular signatures that mark documents as belonging to that vertical; blog docs or micro blog docs or network messages etc.

This service is undoubtedly one of the ultimate for every IM guru. I in particular am glad that so many technologies are coming up to make our tasks easier. Thank you very for sharing such a vital tool. Will surely try it out.
Analyzing the social media tools is important for new bloggers and for the legend bloggers too. But doing this with the right approach is equally important. For this getting help from professionals will prove an added advantage. So I think it will be beneficial for small business owners for taking help from Alerti which will prove cost effective too!

Alerti is a great option for all people savvy about having the latest protection for their social network interactions. I see a point in it, that people are so defensive when it comes to their social media needs. People do not want their interactions to be monitored by ex-girlfriends, heartbroken lovers and the like.

Hey Murray, Alerti is a new one to me – but I must say I am one of the 1 in 3 that are unhappy so far with the social management & monitoring tools.
Alerti looks like a cut above the rest though and looks very functional, definitely something that all businesses should consider since social media is so powerful and could potentially cause damage to some businesses if not monitored properly.
