PostRank Analytics Preview from AdAge Power150

January 12, 2011 · 28 comments

AdAge Power150Would you like a free peek “under the hood” to see what is behind the AdAge PostRank numbers? I’ve been Tweeting and writing about how important PostRank is going to be for bloggers.

If your blog is on the AdAge Power150 you can see how your own PostRank numbers are calculated by clicking on your PostRank number there.

If you aren’t listed, you can look up a blogger you know on the AdAgePower150 list and see why their numbers are what they are to get insights into how to improve your own PostRank numbers. Just click on the PostRank number for any blog and you’ll get a free look inside the new PostRank Analytics.

Take the PostRank Analytics Tour and consider their 30 day PostRank Analytics Free Trial. If your blog is on the AdAge Power150,  you are eligible for an additional 30 days so you have 60 days free trial. (Use the link in the AdAge post to claim your free trial extension.)

The full analytics are only $15 a month and given how important these numbers are going to be the insights we can get from PostRank Analytics may be something all serious bloggers will want to invest in. If you are an influencer you may even qualify for a free PostRank Influencer account.

Will the PostRank have influence on the Google PageRank? Or is it a tool to improve my posts by statistics? I’m trying to get my blog a better PageRank…

Whatever online PR methods you try don’t forget that to boost your search engine rankings you need to use your own keywords. Include them in any written content so they will be fed into the search engines wherever they are published and, if possible, link some keywords directly to you

PostRank looks like a promising way to measure audience engagement. I have found Mozrank to be a useful way to quickly estimate the relative authority of a site.

Hello @growmap,

I just wanted to thank you for linking my post in related posts. I saw that AdAge ‘s list was using PostRank as one of the ranking factors for some time now and I think it’s one of the most relevant factors they have. The only fear I have is that people will start exploiting it now that you showed them the light in regards how it actually works (that they will start creating multiple spam twitter and other social accounts and share their posts). I’m sure PostRank will eventually develop some sort of protection from such ranking manipulation, maybe using the Twitter’s “golden cut rule that no one likes to talk about” (followers vs following ratio).

Hi Peter,

Only Google would know but right now it looks like Google PageRank is in limbo. There hasn’t been a major update in far too long so no one is likely to be able to get any site a better PageRank.

PostRank reflects how interactive what you are doing is and it can be an indication of what posts are most popular. Like any automated tool it is not nearly as accurate as using common sense.

Personally, I focus on what I know needs to be done and let the numbers fall where they may. I sometimes do change what I do to affect numbers (such as answering my regular collaborators on Twitter instead of in email or chat to increase klout numbers) but that is secondary to doing what I know is important.

Do read the post I’ll put in CommentLuv about building links and also read the one about How to Use KeywordLuv. Every comment you write can be increasing your business and traffic.

Hi Lyle,

I only approved your comment so I could explain why that kind of comment is NOT going to work in blogs and will quickly get you flagged as a spammer by Akismet (which means your comments will immediately be relegated either to the spam folder many bloggers NEVER review or get them deleted outright by Akismet (depending on what settings the blogger chose).

Your comments will never see the light of day even in blogs like this one that use our GrowMap anti-spambot plugin because what you wrote is spam to every blogger – even me – and I love to give links to deserving businesses.

It is spam because it has nothing whatsoever to do with this post. It is a commercial for your business – pure and simple – and a BAD commerical at that because it shows that you have no idea how to go about properly commenting in blogs.

Your example is all wrong. I hope you read this and take it to heart and if you change your ways I will remove your name and links from your comment so that your company will not forever be associated with spamming blogs.

P.S. Every person who is serious about operating a business with an Internet presence needs to be consistently using Twitter.

You should also read my posts about <a href="http://GrowMap.com/commentluv which tells you much of what I just wrote in this comment and also the one about How to Use KeywordLuv because you should be linking your preferred anchor text in your comments which is probably not your name.

Thanks for providing another reminder about this resource. I think your prediction that it will grow in importance is spot on. Also, trying to make the list certainly gives all your readers with blogs something to aspire towards.

Hi Randy,

It is an easy prediction to make and you can see how it is growing in importance by watching the AdAge Power150 numbers for specific blogs. For example, GrowMap and MurrayNewlands were both averaging 150-160 on the Power150 list.

His blog usually publishes content more frequently and has the same type of content written by many of the same people including me. The difference is that GrowMap has a more active following on Twitter and far more interaction in the comments.

Today GrowMap is at #136 but MurrayNewlands has dropped to to #229 today. Whether a blog is on the AdAge Power150 or not that change in position indicates the influence that PostRank will have on every ranking that uses it.

I believe they will be widely used for determining which blogs are considered influential, which are worth advertising on and even which are included on lists of recommended blogs worth reading.

Hi Alexis,

Your Google Bans Autoblogging post is popular both here and on Twitter. AdAge only lists marketing blogs and they can be selective. Even Kristi Hine’s Kikolani.com Social Media Marketing blog is not listed yet because they didn’t think it was online marketing related. I’m hoping they change their mind because few know or share as much about marketing as Kristi.

That link I used for her is to the post that shares all the other top marketing blogs she is a regular contributor on including Search Engine Journal, Social Media Examiner, Search Engine Watch, and Stay on Search.
